Title: This may not happen
Post by: Len on 28 November 2012, 10:09
Little inside knowledge.

Colleagues in the same team as me attend think tanks with Government Agencies that look at the future of Transport.
That is Road, Rail and Air travel.

Great debate about this proposed new Airport in the Thames estuary.
Getting there will be the big problem. Rail - the HS1 line can be extended to it.
Road they reckon that a whole new M25 would have to be built! So thats a no no!
So the logical extension of that is = No Cars!
Well certainly not cars with combustion engines!

..... and how will they stop the use of cars?

Ban the sale of the fuel.

They are seriously thinking of this course of action in 20 years time.

So I wouldnt bother saving for that Porsche!

London needs a subterranean "Big dig" like Boston did some years ago.

It is getting Crossrail but that does not link the airports.

One of two things will happen.

1) It will be a short to mid term cheap co out of a botch without a 'joined up' integrated transport solution.

2) It will be too hard to "agree upon" and they will park it (indefinatly) until the next parliament.

fact.

You are correct.

I only posted this because it gives an insight into how the powers that be are thinking.
Whatever does happen it will not be good for us.
We suffer great congestion now and without new road schemes that will get worse.
Are we building any new roads?

High Barnet is where the Northern line stops, after this is Mordor.

Living out West has the same effect of living oop norf, but without all the unpleasant side-effects.

Len, there's a saying you should pay heed to:

All you'll see crystal ball gazing, is a load of crystal balls.

Things will never be as good as they were and prices will go up.  Just face up to it and embrace it.

This isnt quite crystal ball gazing, this is actual Government departments current thinking!

It may well be pie in the sky thinking but.....
it is in their minds!

As for myself it doesnt bare thinking about as a world without cars is totally alien to me.

the potential outcomes for this are not good.   if fuel becomes NLA  we'll just do the same as for parts that are NLA  and make it ourselves,  plenty of stuff grown here out in the sticks that will ferment

failing that may have to embrace public transport in an unconventional manner.    start building busses and run a bus company.   who said you can't have a drift bus and do you actualy have to carry passingers as round here they just seem to drive round for the fun of it
