O M G
Look at the cold side
I would 100% buy it if I wasn't buying a house
-
Now thats a proper piece of kit... Il keep dreaming. :undecided:
-
Holy sheeeeeeeet
-
Would have that over a 1.8t any day.... If it wasn't for the price tag lol
-
Nice but how much
£4500 would get you a proper spec 1.8t fitted and working and whilst not the same power it would be my choice.
-
Its not cheap but then god knows what that cost to build!
-
Is seller showing RR or Dyno graphs/figures?
(no ebay at work)

Nope
The engine is a 2l 16V ABF which has been built with power and reliability in mind. With the current set up it will be pushing around 400BHP but has been built to with stand 450BHP.
The engine is capable of exceeding 500BHP with just the edition of ARP head studs and engine gurdle
Suggest to me that it has never been ran up or tested.

You just gotta love some people!
-
400 BHP+...and it's still using standard head bolts?
Hmm...
They must be stronger than I thought.

Well, what do you know about the ABF engine anyways?
-
Tbf even if its 'only' kicking out a solid and reliable 350bhp its still going to be a hell of an engine and a shed load cheaper than trying to acheive anything near it with a n/a ABF lump.

Going to take a lot of time and money to get it in and working by the time you factor in managment set up etc.
-
To the uninitiated this engine will go bang very quickly.
This will need setting up by a pro and not a weekender like most of us are
-
If you can afford 4.5k on an engine then im pretty sure you'll have another wedge set aside for installation and configuration. You'd be a prick not to.
-
I think it looks great
Also think the head bolts will be just fine
I know On the 1.8t lumps the headbolts are never a issue. Infact the only reason folk use apr is because you can re use them if you remove the head where as the OEM ones need to be replaced everytine you remove them
It's not a highly stressed bolt anyhow, the most stressed bolt is the conrod fastners. So APR ones are a must.
I'd certainly rather keep my personal set up over this, and I'd personally raster have another well sorted 20vt over It too but this looks a serious bit of kit and I doubt you cod make all that for anywhere Close to 4.5k
To me, it's close to the ultimate ABF set up
Gearbox let's it down IMO
Should have gone 02j with a wave track and modified ratios (just my opinion)

02A and 02J are the same inside anyway...so no real advantage in going O2J.
The uprated shift tower can be fitted to the 02A anyway...so the casing code is irrelevant.
-
Is the tower the only difference then , i thought the ratios were different as well?
-
The case is also different slightly, cosmetic l know but still look better
Iv had both side by side
Ratios will be different too. Mine are anyhow as Iv had the ratios changed
I'd have at least gone 02j it's a newer box
He does not mention a rebuild of the o2a so I assum it's only had a pelequin fitted and nothing more
At the very worst should have fitted o2j tower yea and then a mk4 shifter
Prob one of best mods I did on mine, a total transformation. Driving a normal mk3 now to me feels like the gearbox is knackerrd lol
Anyhow it's only the gearbox, new owner of this cools change that easy enough

OK...so they are very slightly different...but then again, so is an 02C.
The fact remains, the casings, diffs, final drives and gears are interchangable...so there is no 'advantage' in going 02J.
I agree, the newer box will likely have less wear...but if rebuilt, it matters not a jot whether it's 02A or 02J...as long as you fit the right drive cups for the diff.
As for ratios...there are sooooooo many gearbox codes that it's simply silly to say an 02J is 'better' than a 02A.
The ratios need to be matched to the engine and proposed use of the car.
But buying a certain casing because it looks better?
Surely not Brad?
If you want scene points/eBay rare points, then a 02C is where it's at
I'd have at least gone 02j it's a newer box
Valid point...
But if building with a certain set of ratios and a certain diff, I'd have gone for the cheapest bare casing.
-
I went 02j purely because I had one sitting here from my dads car which he bought new
It was ripped apart by the master Hotgolf and modified plus rebuilt with new parts as you already know
And has the wavetrac diff/APR bolt combo
For me personally this is the ultimate gearbox for my set up.. Bloody love it
You make valid points though, but yeah if no rebuild is to take place I'd go for as newer box I could get
Deffo do the O2j tower/shifter swap tho if I was to stay 02A

Finally got around to looking at the ebay listing!
That lot would have cost a lot more than £4300.
I know JNL Racing aint cheap!
