just picked up a gtd 3door white with charleston shadows, looks great but not sure I like the cr engine.i part exchanged my gt sport 170 tdi which I had for 3 years & just think the gt sport feels so much quicker & sounds better.i no these are 2 different engines and the power delivery is different but has anyone else went from a gt sport to a gtd.
-
Yup made the same transition, albeit to my Leon FR but totally agree, the pd offered a much punchier feeling engine with the big wall of torque low down in the rev range.
The CR is a much more linear power delivery very similar to a petrol engine and I was also quite disappointed when I first got it
42k miles on and I have got used to it albeit would love to have a drive of my old Golf again to compare.
On a positive note the CR engine has got better with age, noticeably loosened up after 10k miles.

Yeh totally agree that's what I loved about gt sport the big thud of torque, you just don't get that with the gtd.should have kept the gt sport as my run around.

Let the Doc(mod) AKA Carbon Chip Tuning work his magic on it, then your get your thud back...

Going to pm the doc soon.only problem is I stay just outside Glasgow.
-
He seen me all right, inside of Glasgow
-
I went from the 140pd to the 170cr and think the fuel economy is better and obviously the performance. The gtd sounds better too.
-
P3asa your only 5mins from me,also did u take your car down to doc or did he come to you.
-
He was up in Glasgow one night and PM'd me after I was just enquiring if it could be done.
Yours might need the chip out though depending on age. Mine was just a plug into the port.

Took the gtd out for a good run 2day and down a stretch of road I drove everyday in my mk5 & the gtd just isn't as quick.love the look of the car & it's nice to drive, just not liking the cr engine.
-
I'd say it is as quick, it just doesn't "feel" it.
-
I would agree that's a fair statement, you just need to work the CR equipped cars harder to achieve the same levels of performance.
-
Your probably right, could may'be just take a few months to get used to it.

The CR 170s just don't have that big torque spike that the PDs have, I've found.
They sound a bit better, rev a little higher and seem a bit better on fuel...but they just don't have the torque delivery of the old PD.
-
What your not liking is the lack of balls at higher revs at a guess?

I'm sure Doc could sort your problem out with his made to measure maps, its worth the drive to Manchester and you'll love the drive home :smug: :smug:
Did you test drive GTD before buying ?

yes I took it for a test drive but only for 5mins.its not I don't like the gtd as its a great driving car it's just I prefer the pd power delivery, may'be I will get used to .
-
A map would probably change that!
-
A remap will most definitely liven things up but you'll never quite get the kick of the PD engines :undecided:
I'll be sticking with my old skool PD engine for a while yet much to The Docs disgust

Don't say this guys.
I'v been wanting a GTD since their launch, have planned one for my next car. Love the grunt and torque of my PD at the mo...I hope I don't remember this thread in the morning :lipsrsealed:

Think the only way I'm keeping the gtd is if I get a remap, trying so hard to like the cr engine but its not happening.I just hope when I'm out for a drive I don't see a gt sport in my rear view mirror.
