This might be a daft question, but here goes:
I've picked up a mk4 golf 1.9 tdi (90bhp) model. It required a full engine rebuild to get back on the road, but i was wondering what are the differences between the 90 and 150bhp model?
Is it possible to upgrade a few parts to bridge the power gap?
If possible, would it require uprated gearbox/clutch or extra bits?. (im assuming brakes would be a must).
Cheers in advance!

Brakes, turbo, injectors, IC, gear box(6 speed), manifolds, piping. The list probably goes on...
Will cost an AWFUL lot of money to do that rebuild. :lipsrsealed:

ECU and mapping. There is an easy £400+.
-
you chould in theory rebuild it as a 130 then get 150 or more with mapping, but the 150 has quite a lot of differances so would be a twerp to build it as a 150 may as well just buy engine loom and ecu

lol, seems like one big headache. Like i said, it was just a thought. Danny_p, you mention it may be possible to rebuild at 130? What's involved?
Basically, im just trying to squeeze a bit more power out of the engine whilst im rebuilding, as i may as well take the opportunity.

All of the above mentioned...The only differences between a 150/130 is the turbo and the SMIC in the 130, FMIC for the 150.
Just the pipe work in the 130 is easier I guess. :undecided:

thought there were ECU differances allong with 130 turbo been traditional wastegate type and 150 been varible jobbie, may be mistaken tho havent done much on dinkey diesels for a while now

ECUs are the same I believe, just mapped differently. Both turbo are VNT type

Ok, so the 90bhp seems a lost cause regarding upgrading to a 130/150 somehow.
Much easier to take the remap option? I'd be happy for now to have 110-120bhp
-
I would defo not re build as a 130/150.
The amount of effort time money would be ridonkulous!
-
ridonkulous, that sounds expensive
Cheers for the input gents!

Well, after an unexpected turn around, when picking up the car over the weekend, it turns out to be a 130bhp engine :D
Im thinking that as the game has changed, what are the options for a little more power? remap etc?
