Title: Mini MK6
Post by: mkviken on 26 November 2012, 11:41
as im out of action for a while i needed something to keep me busy so built this. been about 18 years since i built an RC car and the bodyshell on this one is by far the hardest ive done yet!

the bloke in the shop even said this one is a tricky body shell - 3 colours, a separate wing, separate light pods, and 2 full sheets of decals

turned out really good. got some black wheels too but i like the silver though i would like them to stick out further.

That's very nice. My lad is on about wanting one, which reminded me of this one that I built around 15 years ago.

Attack the arches with a Dremel, or I am sure you could make some spacers.

Good job, but you must have too much time on your hands

Very nice!! Might have to sort out my 1:10 mk4 now, not touched it for a few years!

You can buy offset hex's that'll make the wheels sit further out, may need different half shafts with longer threads though.

What kit is it?

yes i have the wider hex spacers but the kit came with standard length half shafts. i could either get wider offset wheels or change the drive shafts etc if i get a hop up kit.

there is alot of play in the standard steering and suspension parts so if i can be arsed i might get a set of ball bearings and alloy hop up kit

its a tamiya tt01e kit. not had a chance to try it outside yet due to weather

Bearings yes, it'll make it much nicer to drive and the motor/geartrain will last a little longer. Alloy parts...I'd say no, the extra strength from the alloy arms etc will simply move the weak points onto the chassis, arms are pence to replace, chassis are pounds! And I can't say I've noticed any difference with alloy bits, except metal gears and hex's (and half shafts if yours are plastic?)

What's the plan, just a bit of fun or to get more serious? I used to race a Team Associated TC4 a few years ago...couldn't afford to keep it up though :(

I'd say your next buy should be a LiPo battery and charger, sooooo much better than NiMh or NiCd!

i just got it for something to do for a few days as im injured at the minute.

im only using it for a bit of fun really. i wont use this shell as it took too long to do so im going to get a lancia delta one to use outside.

Where did you get the body shell from.

Would like that for something to do with it being freezing

I'm not sure if the shell is sold on its own yet. The kit only came out a few weeks ago so might take a while yet.

no mate theres no shops locally anymore. i had to go to middlesborough to get this kit! he has the scirocco and bmw M3 in the same chassis.

im going to get another shell to use out as the golf one took so long to do

the scirocco, lancia delta and M3 ones are just one colour so easier to do.

How much was the complete kit ?

kit was £130 but with the radio gear, battery and charger and 3 tins of paint it was £200.

ive already bought some hop up parts! got a full ball bearing kit, an alloy prop shaft and joints and will be uprating the sport tuned motor.

aparently the BB's and prop shaft are the best mods to make on these followed by a better motor.

That's good to hear, I had a love / hate relationship with my GTD for the first 9 months.
