Title: Boost Problem, engine Code AGR (90)
Post by: GOLF-MK3-GTI on 26 November 2012, 10:00
Hi

I'm mostly lurking around in the MK3 Section, But i have now bought a MK4, (Keeping the MK3 too).

Its 1 owner from new, 150,000 on clock, full VW History & previous M.O.T's,

Turbo was replaced 2 years ago.

Anyway, the question is with it being the basic TDI Model, having only 90 BHP, Should it be pokey?
I feel as though its leaking boost pressure from somewhere?

Any Help

The 90 BHP model is not that pokey TBH. If you think its leaking boost pressure then check all the pipes from the intercooler for splits or missing clips. You would prob hear a constant whooshing noise if it was a boost leak though.

Yes your right, it does make a whoosh sound. Going to check the pipes and see what they like.

Thanks for that, appreciate it

they do whistle a bit anyway. if it puts out a fair bit of black smoke id say boost leak. also check your vacum lines as this controls the boost levels, if one splite itll cause havoc with boost

It doesen't give out black smoke at all, i was driving behind it on the motorway, whilst my brother was in the golf ahead, and he pressed it quite alot, and it didnt smoke at all... its a complete minter to be quite fair... and the bloke who i bought the car off, has had it from new, when it were 3 weeks old, and he said to me, it's never had a poke, its been like this from the day i got it...

Then he went on to compairing with his skoda fabia diesel, saying that shift's better than this lol...
