I'd quite like to buy stuff from TPS but I am not trade. I think this means they hate me and think i smell so will refuse to talk to me?
I did try to sign up/in/on their website ages ago with the details of my imaginary 1 man garage but I heard nothing.
How do you guys who are also not 'officially' in the trade get your trade memberships? I remember hearing yonks ago that all you have to do for Halfords trade discount was catch the right person on the right day and just ask for a card. Never tried it tho cos i'm scared of lookin like a plonka.

It's not that easy with either of them now...
They don't like giving discount away unless they have to.
I got My TPS account after buying a few grands worth of stuff and jumping through the hoops that they wanted... not all stuff is on that great a discount (some as little as 3%) and some is volume based the more £1000's you buy the more % you can get..
Halfrauds you need to have a registered business and produce invoices for work done and for purchases from other suppliers and then they MIGHT give you a card...

halfords gave me my card when they came to work and gave them out like smarties

With TPS it seems to depend a lot on what kind of guys you have working at the branch and even who serves you on the day, I get 8 or 10% discount at mine
I have a Halfords card, all I gave them was a business card, filled out form with name etc then they used my debit card for ID, easy as...

For the Halfords card, all you need to do is to join the Armed Forces as an engineer. Production of your ID card and a statement along the lines of "I'm an engineer in the Navy/Army/RAF" will get you one.

Tps sell to the public and trade. last time I ordered they cocked the invoice up so it wasn't on my account and it was invoiced as a walk in cash sale. it was also discounted.
-
If they can't open an account for you they will if you're lucky or friendly with them put it through as 'Trade Cash Sale'
-
they wont open an account for you if you dont have a auto business. and as said before they do sell to the public, but the bham branch wont as they have had enough of public customers wasting their time ordering wrong parts & bringing them back. you need to speak to someone who is friendly. i know 2 guys from my local branch who are very helpful & enthusiastic & defo go that bit further
