Just bought a 2000 mk4 1.9 TDI.. i bought it just a hour ago.. I had a test drive it was perfectly fine, when i got home it was perfectly fine but then as i was driving it stalled.. i thought it was due to the flat battery so i restarted it and tried to reverse but it goes forward and stalls again.. even in 1st gear it feels like its stuck in a heavy gear and stalls.. Could any one help? this is my first mk4 and ive not had it longer than a hour and its already playing up

Just spoke to a mechanic.. hes telling me it could be a cable which has come off from the gear selector?? any one know or could give me a hint what it may be

Can you get it in any gear?
An old mk4 of mine the selector fork 'went'. Couldn't get it into any gear bar 4th!

Ye i can get it to go into the gears but even if its reverse it still goes forward slowly and then stalls..

Just found the problem.. its the plastic bit at the end of the gearbox selector cable that has snapped and wont let me change gears.. hope i can get one from dealers tomorrow and have it back on the road.. :undecided:
