Title: Xenon lights, Auto and On turning operation question
Post by: Snoopy on 21 November 2012, 08:02
Does the xenon lights turn in the light switch AUTO mode as mine don't seem too.

I tried them in the ON position this morning and i think they were turning. (not that easy to see)

Yup, mine do.
You can see them self test at start up, and see them shifting on back roads - all when left in Auto.

Thanks,
Mine self test on startup ok but when im driving mine dont seem to turn on the back road on the way home.
But if in the ON position this morning (use different route in the morning on lit roads) they did seem to move i think but not when put back in auto mode  :undecided:   (I also see the drivers side light move inwards when stopping behind traffic in the ON setting but not in Auto)  :undecided:

I think i may double check what byte 18 is set too as it maybe that causing an issue.

I can't think I've ever seen mine move inwards when stopping behind traffic.

The self test, you see them move...then up down over bumps and side to side with the steering...but never when stopping behind someone. Not that I've noticed anyway.

Do they only work below a certain speed like winking fog lights on lesser models do?

Have you turned them on in the MFD? There's a page just for 'adaptive lighting'. They're really obvious when you're driving on pitch black roads. Mine seem to work at about 20 mph and above.

Yes i made sure they are turned on in the menu, Its another reason i dont think they are moving as it made no difference turning it on or off on the way home last night,

I also read the manual last night, just incase to find out if it may have been a tempurature reason they only working but all it says is they work above 10kph

They do the up down left right test at start up.

Glen,
If i have the light switch set to ON and come up behind traffic for example on a roundabout with traffic lights on red. When i stop in the line of traffic the right light moves back in. I can see this happen. But does not seem to do it in Auto. Also seen it do it a few times like this.

I think Byte 18 is set to 15 but it maybe at 43.

Seems like there's a problem as it doesn't matter whether mine are in 'Auto' or 'On' they behave exactly the same. (As you describe, plus noticabley turning in corners)

If you enable 'Travel mode' do they dip into the centre of the road?

I'll try that later as im going to give it a full scan anyway.

I always really noticed the lights turning when i first got the car but not of late. Ive not driven the mk6 for 4 months but used another car so you would expect i would really notice it again..

I originally just put it down to maybe they are getting faster as they ware in, so i dont notice it as much and can not trick it like i use to.

The right (drivers side) seems to turn back in when stopping when i come upto a line of traffic, noticed that alot on the way home.

It scanned ok.

Byte 18 is set at 15 is this right?

Travel mode
after selection it a yellow bulb light on the dash flashes while the light moves. The drivers side light moves inward also looks like the passenger one moves down alittle.
Can someone else try selecting this and see if the yellow warning light in the dash flashes as they move as
 :undecided:

Thanks  :undecided:

Thanks Neil

Using the other car the rest of this week just incase we get hit by the floods predicted by the news. So will try it again at the weekend.

That's the correct operation for travel mode.

Don't ahve a scanner so can't check parameters in mine unfortunately.

Thanks,
Once the weather settles down abit and its not like trying to drive through a river I will take the GTI back out and see what its doing now.
Those that have retrofitted rear  leds and have front xenons I'm guessing your coding of byte 18 is the same as mine? 15
