Title: Engine noise

I have just rebuilt my golf 16v started it up last nite for the first time and on tick over its tappin give it abit of gas and it goes away I have checked oil and it's ok wot else could it be

Check the gaskets for the manifolds, could be blowing air from one of them.

Give it a chance! may be one of the tappets not yet filled up with oil, a short drive may sort it out
