Hi guys, new GTi owner here, got myself a very well looked after 55 plate with FVSH, cam belt and water pump changed and DSG gearbox oil was all done last year by VW main dealer. The car has 60k on the clock. I've only had the car for 5 days but have noticed when i pull up at lights there is a rattle, sounds a bit like a loose cover or something under the bonnet?. If i knock it in to neutral the rattle stops, so seems to only occur when in D or S mode (havent noticed if its there in reverse but will check).
I was wondering if this was a common fault or if anyone could suggest what the problem may be?
Amazing car by the way, wish id bought one sooner. :)

I have noticed this as well on my Ed30.
I did a search on this forum and it seems to be the noises made by the fuel injection.
There is a another post with a link to a youtube clip and when I watched that I recognised the noise.
I usually use Shell V Power but filled up Tesco momentum at the weekend and the noise has almost stopped.
No idea why that would be.

Strange you say that, as the previous owner always used BP ultimate but as there isn't a BP garage near me i just filled up with regular Tesco. I have to say that i didn't notice the rattle in the first couple of days after buying it. Next fill up i'll opt for the Momentum and see how it goes.
How much more is Momentum per litre? So is this a VPower/Ultimate equivalent then? Had a 118d for the last couple of years so not used to looking at the green pumps. :undecided:

Always try to use Super Unleaded in a GTI. Tesco Momentum and Shell V-Power are the best. Tesco M is usually 5p more than standard, but you get better performance and economy so is worth it.
BP Utimate is lower octane and more expensive, so I wouldn't use it even if you had a BP station near you, although it's better than using normal unleaded.

What your describing sounds like the infamous ticking noise of the TFSI engine caused by the direct fuel injection and HPFP. It's common and unfortunately means that most Gti's sound like Tdi's
As far as using 95ron unleaded is concerned, that's a no no really if you want to keep your car in good condition. Plus which the extra that you will spend on V-Power (£3.50 per tank) you will easily recoup that extra spend in better fuel consumption. I hear a lot of good things about 'Momentum' but with the various tests done of super unleaded's 'V-Power' is easily the best time and time again. I presume the use far superior additives to Tesco.

Hi, I am having the same issue, a rattling noise (sounds more like a slightly blowing exhaust) from my 2007 GTI DSG when the car is stationary in D, M or S with my foot on the brake.
I have only had the car for two weeks and had to have the fuel pump replaced under warranty as the car died as soon as I picked it up!
However, I understand that the vibration issue is common in the GTI with the wet DSG 'box.

I know nothing of the problems surrounding the 'DSG' box, so I'm afraid I can't shed any light on this for you. Although if I were you I would take it straight back to the place you bought it from and ask them to diagnose it and sort it for you. I would also take it to another garage and get an opinion so you know the place you bought it from isn't stitching you up.
