Title: Golf MK3 Electrics
Post by: DS1991 on 19 November 2012, 23:18
the car is a 1.4 AEX engine code 1996 Golf MK3 SE

Basically was driving along the motorway at speed and my car cut out and had to coast to a stop in a layby had to be towed home and turns out it was the fuel pump fuse that had blown.

after changing the fuse the car was fine till i took it out and it cut out the same way going up a slight incline changing from 2nd to 3rd.

changed the fuel filter and relay and it was fine till it done it again going from 2nd to 3rd off some lights, changed the fuse ran fine.  I then took the car for a hard drive with lots of hard and fast acceleration and it was fine oddly but still am very wary about it breaking down again and want the matter solved.

I recently changed the 02 lambda sensor and all the wiring etc is fine and has been running fine for about 3 months since i changed it.

also, my interior light wont turn off when you shut the doors with the light on the door setting, but comes on randomly with the doors shut and the light on the door setting after driving the car for a while and turning the engine off

finally, my stereo doesn't pick up any radio stations so its obviously the aerial, i also heard something about a aerial amplifier wire on the harness?

cheers

Seems fuel issue is sorted, not heard of fuse blowing without the pump itself being damaged too often but if filter is blocked almost completely then i assume thats a possibility.

interior light staying on is 90% a broken wire in door wiring loom, pull back rubber elbow from where the door is hinged to body and you'll likely find broken wires (or ones with insulation rubbed off).
10% on broken micro switch for the door....

your radio not getting signal is probably something to do with antenna, is it an aftermarket stereo?
don't think mk3 aerial has remote boost supply.... where is your aerial? is it in front left wing or on the roof?

yeah i thought it seemed to be sorted but the random blow the other night kinda made me think otherwise but maybe it is sorted after a hard drive

ill have a look in the morning, sounds simple enough, can it just go randomly?
