Hi,

Steam sounds like the heater matrix has gone pop.. Do you get any HOT air??

Electrics - Hummm I would be checking the back of the fusebox, relays and fuse's to make sure that you haven't got a water issue with it being stood for so long...

Check the Tech secion at the op of the page and then the Fusebox FAQ's - section on CE1 seems relevant for your car!

There's an earth point in front of the driver's door, kinda above the fusebox, and also a multi point one above the fusebox underneath the clocks. I'd check those if the previous owner was messing around with electrics.

Thank you both, Steve_B (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=11254) & X4MGS (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=27235) - This is what's been said to me earlier today also. Looking forwards to getting her road worthy, everything after that is just details - But if I can legally move her around, that'll make it so much easier to sort her in the long run. That's me for the rest of the week now - I'll hide myself away in the car with a work-light tonight and get to work! I'll post back when I know more. I've since bought cable, and sparks here is going to re-cable the lot. Shocking how shoddy the original job was, honestly. Not even the correct gauges of cable.. Makes me

Best, Crit

Update - Heater matrix popped, coolant filled the car, electrics no better, but I have dropped her off with a VW specialist (Autotechnic) in Oxford, and now due to flooding of the city, can't bloody get to her! Grueler.

Anyhu, see how she is when the roads stop being rivers!
