Title: RCD 510 > iPod
Post by: Guy on 17 November 2012, 22:53
ooook

so we have a RCD510 in the 2008 Tiguan with a parrot kit but it seems iffy at best

when there is a connection it plays at a constantly high volume which we aren't able to adjust

so... i am thinking

rip out parrot kit as it seems defunct anyway

install some kind of MDI connection

questions:

1. what will we need to achieve this
b. will it allow FULL ipod/iphone control through the headunit

tia

You could go the whole hog and get the VW touchscreen satnav which have SD card slots and throw in OEM bluetooth kit

Is it possible to iPod the rcd510 though?

We won't be upgrading to the rns anytime soon and the current one has sd card slot

You can get a kit but functionality is limited I believe  :undecided:  i.e scrolling through playlists is cumbersome. Im not sure if the latest MDI interface improves things  :undecided:

thank you dude.. thats the one i think

have been having a look on oemretrofits and it seems to be the recommended solution

http://www.oemretrofits.co.uk/OEM-iPod-integration.shtm#mdi (http://www.oemretrofits.co.uk/OEM-iPod-integration.shtm#mdi)

the egay version is much cheaper though

now have to work out how to fit it!

Flathead screwdriver and a torx bit set should be all that you need

was looking at stereo removal last night... all seems ok

where would the MDI module sit? or isn't it that complikated?

was thinking maybe bluetooth module too? or would that be overkill?

I think on the Goof's they fit into the armrest or to keep it simples just run it next door to the glovebox

Have you got a MFSW?

no... steering wheeeel is simples

yeah i know i could run the cable into the glovebox or armrest (will probably go for armrest as it will be easier for access).. but i was wondering about the actual MDI module.. does it attach to the back of the headunit or do you have to find a home for it?  i watched some video (in french) of some dude fitting a bluetooth module which he positioned under the passenger seat  :undecided:

The unit itself will either sit behind the headunit or on top of the glovebox

The bluetooth module is fitted under the passenger seat but I suppose you could position it elsewhere.  That is the factory fitted location  :nerd:

It would be if you had a MFSW  :undecided:  Is the headunit you got touchscreen? Otherwise you're messing about with the phone to make a phone call
