Hope some one on here can shed some light, done a 1.8t engine conversion and got a vag tech to do the loom, everything works apart from the clocks, well the clocks work only when the ignition is switched on,as soon as its cranked or running the lcd's go blank and the fuel and temp drop to zero, also rev counter does nothing, anybody had this happen to them, aswell the handbrake light stays on very faint for about 20 secs after turning engine off, every earth has been checked and cleaned ,all sugestions welcome thanks
mark.

Yes. Theres been a ground removed. From looking at wiring diagrams it runs through the headlight loom. Gets disturbed somehow. Your clocks have a 28 pin plug. Pins 3 and 5 run to ground. They run to U1 and U2 in the fusebox. Ill have a look at wirig diagram to remember what pins in those plugs. I spilced two wires between the 28 pin plug and the fuse box. And earthed them on the dash with some ring conectors.
-
T28/3 to U1/10 to permanant ground.
T28/5 to U2/13 which then runs off to an earth connector in the headlight harness it says.
So basicly spice a wire in each of those wires in the clock harness and earth them. Dash was fine for me

cheers cj will give this a try and see what happens

You sir are a legend ,only i still have no rev counter and a flashing oil light whilst running although i have good oil pressure .
-
It took me f**king ages to figure it out haha!! Glad it actually saved someone some hastle! May be a wiring issue for the oil pressure. My loom i had made had two separate spade connectors for the oil pressure switch and oil temp sensor. Not sure on the wiring for those thou.
-
Cheers for that, saved me a load a grief,4 weeks from starting the conversion i finally got to drive it home
-
Good feeling huh? Get some pics up!
-
Yes mate it is,bit nerve rackin although the engine has only 60000 on it ,it had been laid up for 4 years but its all good, no pics yet as i have some tidying to do
-
glad yours was done in 4 weeks instead of my 4 months!
i get a similar issue, flashes oil and coolant low every time i start the car, even though i know iv got full of both
-
Lol, it did feel like 4 months, i now have a steady oil light on all the time whilst running and no tacho ,thats it really,oh and my exhaust bangs abit at the rear,my oil light was flashing but i hadnt connected it.
-
Still stuck on the oil light and rev counter guys, HELP! I hate driving with oil warning on
-
What pressure sensors did you use? Sure its not a sensor issue? That or wiring.
-
ive got both high and low sensors from the abf fitted, one is open curcuit and one is closed curcuit cant remember which is which, they b oth checkout as working
-
did you use all 3 sensors from the abf?
-
Only using pressure switchs at the mo until i get the temp one rigged up,ive just been reading on another forum and its been said that the oil light can flash if the rev counter is not working,so to rule this out ,how do i get the rev counter to function as i believe (dont quote me on this) it takes the engine speed signal from the coil,so what do i do as i dont have a coil anymore. :undecided:
-
My speed sensor is on the box iirc. And im running an ABF box.
-
Is this the same sensor for the speedo then (3 pin connector) as i have this fitted to my abf box also and my speedo works
-
Ive been told that the tacho gets its signal from the abf ecu,how will i make it work with the agu ecu if this is the case?
-
I think you use a mk4 sensor. Im really not sure though tbh, because the box i got was Brads old box and was set yp for the conversion when i bought it. Was all plug and play

A mk4 gearbox sensor? I dont think it gets its signal from the gearbox as thats the speed sensor for the speedo :undecided:
-
maybe have a word with rubjonny on club gti,he done my looms for my conversion.he will defo know the answer
-
I just have mate im waiting on a reply ,thanks guys for your input so far
-
vss wire connected to w1 on fusebox?
-
Isnt the vss for the speedo and not for the rev counter?
-
whoops my bad
-

-
Right after many hours scouring and asking around ,this is what i have found
AGU ecu pin6 for rpm signal green/brown
Mk3 rpm wire to revcounter white from old coil plug
So i will try this tomorrow.

Cool. Atleast yours is going. Picked mine up from bodyshop two nightd ago and now wont start..... Alot of random electrical problems.... Fueling then not fueling... Was fine when i drove it there haha!!! But hes had it in the oven this time, before all panels were painted individually.... Old cars dont like ovens ocasionally... You got the ECU pinout for the AGU? Thats one diagram i seem to be missing.....
-
Argh that sucks mate hope it aint serious, try this

Ideal thanks bud
-
No probs mate ,how hot do them ovens get then to cause problems ?
-
I think its a bit of a rumor/old wifes tale... But something if been told haha... I assume the heat csn loosen up old solder or wires i guess... Atm i have nothing else to go on haha and seems weird how it was fine before it went there!
-
Lol maybe they took it out for some fun and broke it
-
That was my other thought  :undecided:
-
Hows ya car mate ?
-
Still not going... Gonna have a rake this weekend though. Not had much of a chance yet!
