Title: Bin truck hit step-dads car!
Post by: Ben Lessani on 16 November 2012, 17:33
What's the best way to move forwards with this.

A neighbour let us know that the bin truck dragged itself across the front arch of my step dads car and damaged the wheel arch. But didn't stop or leave a note etc.

Can this be pursued with council or is it a lost hope?

Phone call to the council. stating that you have an independent witness, that saw the damage take place, and also believe that the Driver was unaware that damage had taken place, this stops the driver getting into trouble... make sure any paint transfer is still evident, be prepared take a trip with the car to the compound where the truck is kept
In my experience, Councils are very forgiving about damage caused, and are happy to get the problem resolved asap
Ben, its also likely that the Driver has reported the incident, and are waiting for someone to come forward!

It must be one of them days as a big bin truck hit my car earlier. luckily the wife saw it happen and got the drivers details (it just happens the bin mans insurance is the same company I work for!)

they called me about an hour after the accident offering to collect the car today and drop me a hire car off

I popped Manchester city council an email - and got a response within 3 hrs .... to tell me I emailed the wrong borough!

I'll retry with the correct council next time :D

Here's hoping for a quick and easy resolution as he's only had the car a week :(

councils are normally sh!t hot with this kind of thing, and believe me, the driver would not not have felt a thing

round here theyve fitted them with cctv, do you know if theyre fitted in your area?

had this happen to my oakie a while back.was driving up my street when the bin lorry decided to push his way through and went down the side of my car.my son was on my side as well and was crying as he thought the lorry was going to run over us.i got out of car and the guys collecting the bins couldnt do enough for us but the driver was a different matter.i even got the wayne kerr sign off him and he tried driving off.phoned council as he was driving off and reported him.council were brilliant and car sorted within a week at their bodyshop.it turned out the driver was from an agency and was sacked as soon as he got back to the depot and the police followed it up with a court appearance for driving without due care and failing to stop.
