Sending the car in for one of these today. Some tell me kwikfit arent to be truated and add unneeded jobs to your cars list of faults? Any experience of truth behind that? If they mes me about ill just end up buying random parts i think need changing, giving it all to a local indie garage and take my chances i guess.
-
What's wrong with your eyes? if its not broke don't fix it.
It's a check so don't need to pay for anything, just drive away.
I would never do this! I have eyes and hands to check my own car like many others on here
-
I have the mechanical knowledge of a retarded goat. If i knew what to look for id love to do it myself. Im only getting it checked as ive only had the motor 2 weeks.
-
Ok well get the list or what ever they say, then post it on here and I can help you check yourself and see if anything needs replacing or not.
-
That would be marvellous mate. Cheers
-
I would not take my car to Kwik Fit whilst the check is free they will soon find repairs to carry out.
-
I dont intend on having them do anything to it, its just the check im getting done. Ill source parts n get my local indie garage to do any work
-
I wouldnt even trust what any Kwik Fit Fitter will tell you! Utter morons the lot of them!
-
Ok so theyve said rear pads, handbrake adjusting(rear pads should fix that) brake fluid change and exhaust heat shields loose. They wanted £120 lol sooooo how does an idiot like me change brake fluid n rear pads with no knowledge or skill? (ill probably just cable tie the heat shield)
-
As said morons!
Heatshields are a standard fault on Mk3's - Just take it off, they aint needed.
Brake fluid - well it is said that it deteriates over the years, well I havent changed mine since I bought the car which is now nearly 9 years ago.
Rear pads - can you manage to take a wheel off? Hope so as you'll be buggered if you ever get a punture!
Have a look yourself, with wheel off as you will be able to see how much of the pads are left. 2mm or less then yes probably will need changing soon. If more than 2mm forget it.
-
 yes ican change wheels :-) ive done pads n disks n exhaust n lights n the odd belt before but that was on a honda bout 3 years ago at a night class. I knew the handbrake needed adjusting as it only stays in place when left in gear on hills. So next question are 16v and 8v mk3 pads the same? If so theres some brembos on ebay for £17
-
Rear pads are all the same.
-
Ok so is there a youtube video or a break pad changing guide for numpties like me to follow? Gonna buy n try sunday
-
Why? Have you checked for yourself? Rear pads last years. As said over 2mm of pad is fine. I bet yours are at least 5mm. Go take a picture for us
-
The car rolls forward down hill if not left in gear with the handbrake on so ill just change em. Ive looked into it and it seems easy enough  whilst im there im rust converter painting the sills n removing the heat protector above the back box. This will all get done sunday.

My 16v did that after I fitted new discs, bearings, pads and changed fluid.
Oh but my 8v will need new pads soon as they are very low but my car will stop on one click. 2/3 clicks and it locks the wheels at speed. It's more down to the caliper with the handbrake. Bet yours has done over 100,000.
What I'm saying is don't believe someone that needs money. I'm not your mate and don't want your money.
-
Try adjusting the handbrake cable beneath the centre console to remove any slack, failing this you could have seized rear calipers to contend with if the handbrake still feels rubbish.
-
My 16v rear brakes would lock on the pedal with little effort when the ABS packed in but the handbrake was still sh!te even after I adjusted
-
Kwikfit rsng me at 1130 saying check was done. Im here at 4 and its still in bits up on ramp lol would u adam n eve it!

Thats what kwik fit do.
-
Hope you didn't sign something without reading it first
-
Why? Ive got my motor back. Didnt pay anything
-
Why was it on the ramp in bits?
Did you look at the pads while it was up?
-
Not sure. Just got the motor and left. Gave the pads a look when i got in, theyre buggered. But looking into it, its an easy job that i can actually manage so ill be looking forward to getting grubby under the new motor come sunday. Never even consider a kwikfit ever again. Lesson learned
-
Ive got a set of rear pads in my shed (new - still sealed) yours for the price of postage... probs £2 max
-
Cheers mate. Thats a brilliant offer but ive already paid for a new set of brembos on there way from ebay
