I know it's been asked before!
Just bought my nan a new motor (Suzuki Wagon, because it's tall   ).
Anyway, getting rid of the Polo, MOT runs out Saturday and it will be slung on eBay or scrapped. But I want to sell the private plate.
How do I do it all and what do I need to do to keep it and scrap the car?
Cheers.

I think all you need to do is put it on retention, you can then advertise the number, and state that its on retention... I think!
I've had plenty of dealings with cherished plates, but never in this scenario
Whats the number?

Ah, probs not worth the hassle. R4JTO RAJ.
Valued by some company some time ago at £850 but if I got £400 it's £400!

Stick it on ebay and see how you do. Those companies value it super hi so people think it is worth paying £5 a week to advertise it on their site I'm sure of it!! Jokersss!

you cant - not in time anyway due to mot running out

Cant it be done online?
Thom

gotta be mot'd at time for transfer, - transfers cant be done online.
so unless you geta very fast office, it wont be done in time
I go to dvla a lot to re-register cars, transfer plates and change tax classifications for work motors :lipsrsealed:
not for long if they close Reading branch mind
you need a V317.

if not, then that needs sorting, :undecided:
just cos it is on your car, doesnt mean its your number
-

Okay.... Cheers Chuff.
So MOT is no issue, what was that about being in my name?
Cars in my Grandads name...
-
Quite a good plate imo, also looks like R AUTO But R4J has to be the selling point, stick it on ebay and you might well be surprised!

Wouldn't trust companies offering silly money for a plate I seem to get emails all the time trying to buy mine but wouldn't sell it no matter what I was offered.
-
get the plate put on retension in your grandads name mine took a week to come off then pay 25 quid to change to nominee to you then sell it
-
who owns the car is irrelevant (the v5 being in your name doesnt make you the owner btw) the nominee is the person who owns the plate reg. retention fee is 25 quid for a year iirc and 80 quid for assignment fee
-
the car has to be MOT'd, best be quick
and the grantee owns the plate :lipsrsealed: the nominee is the person its given too
Only the Grantee can assign the vehicle registration
number to their vehicle or to the Nominee’s vehicle.
• The Nominee will have no right to the vehicle
registration number until it is assigned to their vehicle

Who's the Grantee?
Don't get it tbh. It's on my nans car, can I/she sell it?

Unless you get down to your local vehicle reg office tomorrow before the MOT runs out you are stuffed.
-
MOT is no problem!
I could GET an MOT no problems. It's still taxed for a few months anyway.
-
Chuff i bow to your plate knowledge it Ian indeed the grantee!
You need to fill out the form chuff posted, get your gran to sign it (you can change the ownership to your name if needed at this point) then let dvla rape your bank account down the local office...
-
Ah okay cheers.
Rediculous at an £80 cost!
