careful digging with a screwdriver to get it out, keep the bits as you can/could get replacement handle with lock (if you want) from VW.

Dig where with the screwdriver? Ive got replacement off ebay already but i cant open the glovebox first of. Im hoping once i can open it, seeing how to remove old handle and fit new one will be a simple matter of some screws.. Really dont want to pay a garage for this one. Help

can't remember exactly but did get my old one open using a screwdriver, when the catch failed.  Like I say - careful use of screwdriver to disassemble.....

I managed to open mine with a screwdriver in the gap of the broken Handel left because you an push the release mechanism . But if its locked locked as in locked by the key you better shut your eyes and pull/prize it open

This happened to mine a while back, just unlock it and then put a small screwdriver into the hole where the handle used to be (you might need to break it off more) and you can pull back on the tab to open it up. Then get the replacement off eBay as said in the thread and replace it.

Just be real careful as you transfer the locking mechanism as the locks pins are loose and they will fall out - you will probably lose the tiny springs if that happens.
