Title: Radio,Satnav issue
Post by: Yorkishire on 01 November 2012, 15:59
The MFD2 Satnav system in my 56 plate MK5 GTI had stopped working.  The radio has frozen (on radio 2), the satnav will not switch on sand it won't play the IPod.  None of the controls work but it will switch on/off.

The car went in for its annual (70000) service.  VW said that they don’t have the software to fix the issue so suggested I spend £995 to get a new system which is the nearest to the type I have.

Surely this can’t be right? The car is only six years old they must have the software or is it the local dealer trying to cash in?

Anyone else had this problem?

Like all computer systems, try rebooting it to see if that cures it.
Not sure what shortcut buttons you have to press to accomplish this on this unit but disconnecting the battery for a short while will do the same thing.
If you disconnect the battery then when you reconnect it you'll see lots of warning lights in the dash. Firstly with the ignition on turn the steering wheel fully to the left then to the right and straighten the wheel and drive forward slowly for a short while. The steering wheel light will disappear. Continue with the drive and the rest of lights should extinguish themselves.

Thanks for the advice I'll give it a try.
