It certainly won't go like a VR but there are some decent systems or just back boxes out there that sound good, i run a scorpion stainless cat-back system on mine and its quite deep sounding but not loud, others will prefer jetex/magnex etc.
-
How about a modified airbox for some free induction noise?
-
A decent backbox from Magnex/Jetex/Scorpion/Remus etc and a straight through pipe to replace the "suitcase" silencer for a little more noise. Leave the cat and the other middle box in and it won't be stupid loud. Can pick up something cheap second hand from here or eBay, I got a nearly new Remus box for £37 posted!
-
would this help? and will i just have to replace the cat with this pipe?

Removing centre box makes em really chav sounding
Did it on mine when it was a 8v. Had a magnex system which was very quiet till I removed the box
You could hear my induction kit also

Sorry to jump in here but.. While you guys are on this one.. i don't like my standard exhaust system either, it's pretty crap infact, i have a new 'tyre & exhaust centre' back box but that'll fall apart again after a year as they tend to do..
Mine also has resonating waves in the exhaust at certain revs, i don't know if that's normal with these motors but to me it adds to the feeling of more crapness!
What do you go for as a good quality full replacement system without particularly wanting a performance job or any added noise.. ?
Cheers all

Jetex mate
-
Just has a browse on the Jetex stuff.. seems like the answer, the 26-HR system.
Thanks for the pointer.

i trawled through ebay for a few weeks and got a longlife system for £80, ive had a fair few systems and it sounds great nothing like the chav crap of a piper system on my old 1.8t. combine that with a larger inlet on the rather restrictive air box and vent it to some cold air from the bumper and it should sound noticeably raspier.

^ This with a decent backbox and it'll sound good.

Maybe something like this

You mean you bought a new longlife system for £80 ? or you waited until it came up for sale used.. ?
New to me as i've not heard of longlife..
Thanks

i already have a good enough back box, turbo revs, sounds nice - but i want that extra little bit of a beefy sound .... will the de-cat pipe i have seen on page 1 do me any good ? or will it sound hidious ?
-
I'm also interested in the sound of a decat section
-
If you just want a bit more sound then get this over the decat so you won't have to swap it out for the MOT.

-
has anyone else bought this ? what do you think it will sound like ? sumthing ridiculous ? or will it sounds nice ?
-
I normally buy decat pipe just for the sound it makes.
As long as you have two boxes its fine.
Just backbox and straight pipe is too loud
-
so dou think i should buy this ? as at the moment my exhaust is stock, but i have an aftermarket turbo revs backbox as u can see in my pik, but i want it to sound little more beefy.....

-
if you want it beefy then probably yes! it's up to you-hoo
-
Drill loads of holes in your air box and fit a decat
-
iv got a k&n induction kit with power roahr, so i cant do the drilling, and decat i heard someones yesterday the car didnt sound very healthy toyota yaris sport, it sounded as the exhaust had a hole..... i dont want my golf sounding like that at all....

Then it might only have one silencer
My 8v is cammed and on idle is sounds awesome. All my mates love it (at idle) its slow after all. Just sounds great sitting there
-
cammed ? price ? mine sounds nice at idle, but i want that bit of grunt/beefy sound .... so when im at traffic lights, leaving people in first gear i want it to sound powerful like a vr buh it wont ever sound like that.... love leaving people at lights especially the black bmw 330ci 2008 model hu tried to overtake me, but i left him behind :p :p :p oh whooo needs a vr or 16v wen my 8v can do stuff like that to another german car ... just hate my sticky CLUTCH !!!
-
Was about £300 all in with new gaskets
-
I have an 8v decat nearly new you can have for £40 delivered ? Had it on mine it sounded great, gearbox blew up so I binned the car lol
Pm if you want it
-
People in 330 bmw's love to see idiots drive off thinking their awesome
-
My 528i smashed all my cars pulling away.
Fall throttle starts with no wheel spin!!
The 330 was not giving it anything if you pulled away
Just think of the physics
-
Yep, my 16yr old 328 was far superior to my current vr performance wise. It just never made 'the noise'
-
hmm must have bin a 325, as it was a hire car... and he was trying....
-
Ah yes, bmw didnt do a 3litre hire car model
You clearly dont know what you raced on a public road
A 1.8 honda leaves a vr6. Id expect a new 1.8 litre beemer to do the same.
But all said, your an idiot for racing on the road & thinking your car is faster because it sounds fast

My best mate had a 330ci. Im finding it hard to believe you genuinely thought you would be faster off the line. He probably sat back, had a little giggle and cruised past you listening to Radio 2 whilst your sat there listening to your engine make noises it shouldn't whilst hitting redline in every gear.
Crikey.
-
I had a 2.0 8v the only thing it was faster at was being slower than all over cars...
even a 316 would be faster!
