Right, I've read all of the threads about the jacking point modification and if I were intending to have her up and down loads I would probably do it, however I don't so are the advised jack points safe or not because some of the threads read like horror stories! I'll be using a trolley jack and will be very very tentative.

trolley jack on the sills is fine (under the arrows stamped in the pressing).
i usually jack mine from there and place axle stands on the bungs i fitted to the floor.
just put a piece of wood or thick rubber pad on the sill first. the dealership damaged some of the underseal on my car while servicing it. annoying as ive jacked my car up about a dozen times and never damaged it.

Interesting and good to know, i'm going to look at repainting the hubs on mine cos they're starting to get a little too rusty for my liking! :angry: i was a bit twitchy about jacking on the sill join just incase it splits :sick: the supplied jack fits over the join so lifts on the sill itself but it obviously it's not that secure.

my scissor jack doesnt fit over my sills/jacking points as the underseal is too thick. stupid bloody design...
its definitely fine to lift it on the sills with a trolly jack and lump of wood though. done it loads of times and all is fine. plus i hate using widow makers anyway so would only use a trolley jack unless it was on the road side.
to be safe you can put an axle stand either where the lift bungs go (with a block of wood if you have no lift pads) or under the wish bone bush consoles that bolt to the subframe.
