Title: Nasty grinding type nose when I first start car
Post by: Mk2_tel on 27 October 2012, 16:39
It eventually goes but do t sound healthy.
I have a feeling it's from the pulleys or alternator?

Common fault bet its the starter motor.

Sould like the solenoid is sticking on in the starter motor. Common problem. Second hand starter wont cost much.

I would get a new one off ebay .I would not get a second hand one because it might have the same fault or might not last long before it does. Mine been making that stupid noise for over 2 years.

I followed the guide thats on here or vortex, Can't remember which one now.
Basicly strip it down, clean and re grease. Its been good as gold since,
No need to buy a new one at all

Anything hot will smoke when you spray wd40 on it,
I would keep wd40 away from any belts in the bay.

Its probably the secondary air pump,
There is a guide on how to repair that as well, The rivets that hold it together rust away
