Hello all
I feel like one of the luckiest MK2 GTI 8v drivers to have graced this planet.... Would you believe I recently picked up a mint 1989 with 45,000 on the clock, fsh supporting if the factory fresh interior didn't convince you. The car is standard apart from a metex exhaust, and has been loved instead of driven. Is this the lowest genuine milage MK2 out there or has someone else got a shrink wrapped example?
-
Well its allot lower than mine! Im around the 177k mark! Still going strong!
-
mine is on 172k and that is a H reg 1.6 driver
pete
-
how much u pick that beast up for then Billy the bandit?
-
The car was in the family and it was handed down to me. Enquiries were made about selling it but it wouldn't have got anything near what it was worth, 5000 apparently. It is truly concourse, I really should sort out some pics.

I'm generally lurking around the Mk1 Forum but for what it's worth my '89 Cabrio has done over 240,000 and runs like a dream.
-
my mk3 has 133k on the clock on an L plate and is goin fine! got thru a service the other day for 45quid and passed its last mot 1st time
-
mine's got around 30k on the engine, but 182k on the clocks ;)
-
Mine's about 117k and as far as I can tell I've only got about 33k to go before the engine is finally run in, can't wait.
-
Mine will be passing the 100k mark in the next few weeks
There is a well known red 16V mk2 on the show scene on a g plate. It had about 32k on the clock when I saw it at stanford hall a couple of months ago. Seen it at quite a few shows now and it is definately in concourse condition.

I'm sat at 134k engine has done about 35k ;)
-
186,000 :) which is almost bang on 12,000 a year, so quite low then
-
Im at 148k... New cylinder head though with about 3-5k on it...
-
Mines got @ 108,000 on the clock ( barely run-in yet )
Had a customer with a 1984 GTI 8V that had well over 360,000 on it genuine mileage, fully stamped service history ( filled up a few service books as you can probably imagine), the previous owner who was also a customer used to drive all over Europe in it.
It drove well , very smooth but it seemed to have lost its edge ( I wonder why ) unfortunately it got rear ended and so written off which meant we never got to see how far it could get
The only other car I worked on that got near that was a d reg Audi 80 1.8E with over 250,000 on the clock .
Up until that point I thought that only Diesels could clock up that sort of mileage
Anyone know of a higher achieved mileage in a VW than this as I wouldn't be surprised ?
-
146k for 1990 16valver :wink:touch wood
