Title: RNS510 supplier?
Post by: Ess_Three on 25 October 2012, 15:18
Anyone know of a reliable RNS510 supplier, other than VW?

Darren used to be reliable...but I've not seen him about for a while.
I'm not sure I want to play the eBay lottery and potentially getting a pimped up old unit pretending to be a more recent unit.
Looking for a 'C' or newer.

Any thoughts?

Mate, I got mine from a guy called Nick, his username is N13KKF. He's big on the R32OC forum supplying loads of RNS510.

I know of at least two people on this forum who got theirs through him.

Cheers,

Jim

I've seen Nick's name mentioned about...I'll maybe have to join up and give him a shout.
Is that the only Forum he's on?

He cancelled his username on here and just uses SteveP's mk5 forum now, you can still get him over there but last time i asked he was moving house and wasn't doing anything.

Are you after supply only or supply and install? What are you running at the moment, and will you require upgrades (i.e. maps, bluetooth etc etc) ?

What price bracket are you looking at..........I'll see what I can source for you pal

As far as I'm aware he is London based, very helpful on the email side of things as well.

My Golf is being traded in this week coming and I'm putting my RCD510 back in the car so will be selling the RNS510 and GPS unit.

I bought it from Morty about 2 years ago.

It is Version C but isn't the LED version. The firmware and map were updated about 9 months ago. It also have Video in Motion.

I tried the LED version at the dealers but to be honest couldn't notice the difference apart from the screen got to full brightness slightly quicker.

Someone on another forum has asked for some pictures so I'll make a video to let you see the quality of it.

I'm looking for £500 plus £10 P&P. Special delivery on it is £24 but I'll make up the difference.

I'm going up to Dundee probably a week on Monday to pick up the new car if that's any help?

Going for the Audi A1 S-Line 2.0L Sportback. It was between that and the GTD that Lee on here was doing for a great price but if I had went for another Golf it would have meant 6 years with basically the same car and I get bored easily. So just fancied a change. Loaded it full of extras so looking forward to getting it.

A lot of the forums had mentioned this but every person that said it was a harsh ride another would say it was fine. I think its just very subjective. I test drove one for a couple of hours and it wasn't any harsher than the Golf with 18" wheels.

I had a go in one my bosses A1 sline that he had as a courtesy car, apparently it was the dealerships "pack" car?? So i imagine it had the sport suspension fitted, it handled really well imo but our journey took us along a section of the M42 which is concrete paved and it was far too hard for that type of road. like you say though it's one of those things that not everyone can agree on, unlike DSG vs manual!!

Hope you enjoy your new motor though mate, tis a lovely car!

Thanks Jimble. I took about a month pondering between the A1 and the GTD.
GTD in my eyes is a far better car all round. Especially with rear leg room etc. but the boredom factor played a big part. I know its not to everyones taste but I just fancied a change.  I'll certainly be hanging around these parts as I reckon I will be back for the MK8
