Some idea of budget would possibly be useful?

Currently the best camera is the Nikon D800
http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Cameras/Camera-Sensor-Ratings
That will produce gorgeous stills and video
That said it's unlikely you'll want to spend £2K on a body and then still have to buy lenses, so an idea on budget will help.

Errr, your source appears to be lacking quite a number of cameras, especially the 1D-X, which spanks the Nikon competition quite roundly here:

Although I think possibly we'll be talking more like 5% of the budget in this case.

sorry people ,£400-£500 i suppose ,well no more than that for the time being, thanks brett

Canon 600D with 18-135mm lens, from Panamoz.
http://panamoz.com/index.php/canon-eos-600d-dslr-with-ef-s-18-135mm-f-3-5-5-6-is-lens-kit.html
Pay by bank transfer and get 5% off.
Camera comes from Hong Kong, but if you look up customer experiences goods turn up in 3-5 days and customer service looks to be excellent.
Or pay £649 for the same thing, with £40 cashback from a UK supplier:

cheers mate will have a look into it

the one that you use regularly. I've found that lugging around dslr and lenses to be a royal pain unless I am doing a specific project. The best camera I have is the one I use the most and that is a panasonic tz10. I use that on a daily basis to capture my son with at least a photo a day. the second camera is the one in my phone. HTH

cool cheers mate will have a look at that aswell, thing is ,its for the other half for her nail photoshoots as she wants to do update her portfolio etc so wouldnt be an everyday camera, but may well get one of them if there good as need a new daily lol, brett

just looked at my camera and got a samsung pl201 atm ,any good or piece of sh!te lol
thanks for all the help btw

Google will tell you that.
-
Had a play with a few mid range SLR's and they all seemed to give 'ok' pictures but soon as you up the lens game its a whole different camera.
-
Yes, but the 'up the lens game' would be a budget buster here, really, wouldn't it?

You should also consider the Nikon D3200 better image quality and continuous auto focus during movie mode.
The Canon has the advantage with the flip out screen and auto bracketing.
I've got a D3200 as my second body and it's a fantastic camera and highly recommended for the money.
Also if you partner wants this for shooting nails then you might want to consider a lens suitable for close up work (Macro) and a cheap prime 35mm f/1.8 for the video work.
-
cheers ridg will have a google on all that info ,no feck all bout cameras if you hadnt guessed already lol

What He said:
or if your budgets stretched a bit
£300

or £400 (what I've got)
http://camerapricebuster.com/Nikon_D5100_Lens_Kit_18-55mm_VR_pc.html
+£140 for the amazing 35mm f1.8 lens:

Ebays always good for second hand stuff, though if it's a present that might not be such a blinding idea! Removes some of the glitter of it all.
