I bought this MK4 TDI PD115 about two months a go after looking for ages for a low mileage solid example.
I went and viewed the car, Looked solid enough, had 2 previous owners and a full service history. Car was SORN so i couldnt give it a good test drive, Just round the industrial estate were it was locked up.
The car as had a new engine in on June 2012, this was die to a snapped lug on the original so it was replaced and fitted in a garage, fitted at 74,000 currently on approx 77,000.
The car had some work done to it from the previous owner which included:
130 Turbo and Injectors
Coilovers
Upgraded Side Intercooler
De-Cat
EGR delete
150 Intake
RS4's in grey, Unmarked.
Grey VW badges
Smoked/Crystal rear lights
Black front lights
EBC grooved discs and EBC pads.
few other little bits and bobs
Upon getting the car home it was juddering and kicking out some black smoke, I only bought the car local so i got it home and began to investigate, Turned out the cams were completely nackered! I spoke to the seller who gave me some money towards them.
Brand new 130 cams were fitted along with a brake pedal switch and a service.
The car did have it s faults but luckily i bought it cheap enough to allow for problems like this.
Under heavy braking and when the car was travelling at about 80mph there was a lot of judder through the wheel.
Checked it over and the steering rack was shot so that was replaced last weekend and new track rods were fitted, quite a simple job.
The next thing was a couple of minor boost leaks so I replaced the pipework from intercooler to EGR, Then removed the rest of the pipes and fitted them better and put new clips on them.
The car was also losing water and power steering fluid, after replacing three pipes, Turned out there was a cut in the last one so this was replaced! Power steering was a simple job, The two washers on the pump were replaced, Turned out there was only one on so it was leaking very slowly.
The car went in for a custom remap at Big Fish Tuning in Stokesley a couple of weeks a go, They sorted the fueling out for me as the new injectors had never been set up and done a map on the car.
Bit of a problem whilst doing this, The car was under boosting to approx 1.1 bar then over boosting to 1.8bar to over compensate.I have since fitted a new bosch MAF and a PD130 boost solenoid.
As the car wasn't running 100% it only achieved approx 160bhp. I am going back this friday and hoping for the region of 180bhp.
The car had a rust patch near the boot handle as can be seen on the pics, This was sanded down and painted at the weekend, Not a brilliant job but good enough for the time being.
The car has had two new wings put on at the beginning of the year and the person who sprayed it must have been blind as the finish is quite sh!te to be honest. The car will be going in to get ALL marks/dents/rust sorted about march time once the bad weather has passed.
Pressed plates and new HID's will be fitted at the weekend hopefully.
Once the car has been mapped this Friday i think that is all i will be doing this year on it. Paint work is next then if i keep it another year a 150 turbo will be fitted and a few other little bits.
Enough of the talking now, Here's some pics, Stickers have also been removed and pics were taken approx two weeks a go, Hope you have enjoyed reading!

Sounds like you had to sort a few issues out, still all good now car looking nice
-
Quite a few yes mate, Bought the car for £1300 (Including money back for cams) and have spent about £800 on top, I dont think its too bad at £2100 to be honest. Its a really solid example with 77K on the clock.
Thanks
-
Yeah looks tidy long as your happy thats the main thing
-
Went to get the map finished off yesterday, Car is now running a safe 175bhp.
It had some flat spots before it went in and they have been minimized but still there, I thought this was a fault in the map as it was fully custom writen but it turns out it is the turbo sticking slightly.
I am going to run the car as it is now until the turbo finally gives in and then go the 150 hybrid or standard 150 route.
What will I need apart from the clutch upgrade and the turbo, Apart from the extra 20bhp or so is it worth paying more for the hybrid 150?
-
If you switch to the standard 150 turbo you won't need much, if anything else. If you have a healthy clutch and drive like a tool all of the time you'll be fine:smiley:
You will need your software tweaking though
Couldn't comment on the hybird 150 turbo though :undecided:
Looking solid though mate!
-
Thanks mate.
Think i will go the 150 route after xmas if it holds out. I can get a fully reconditioned 150 for £300, keep the standard clutch in for a little longer then get that changed asap.
Once it goes back for a map after what will it be running? 200ish?
-
Depends how hard you want the map pushed. 185-190 would be sensible on an old clutch. New clutch and new turbo you could probably squeeze 200 out of it!
-
Quick update on whats been happening.
New turbo has arrived, Its still a 130 as I am only planning on keeping the car another 6 months. Thats been fitted next Tuesday and its also getting a 80,000 mile service at the same time.
Few other little bits and bobs been fitted including new front tyres. The discs seem to be warped as its juddering under braking so a full set of discs and pads will be ordered next week.
Hopefully that should see me through til June when the insurance is up and I will get a new car..
-
Just another quick question, If I as to sell this now what do you think it would be worth with all the work which has been done?
Its just about to tick over on to 80,000 and is getting the new turbo and service fitted next week at a VW specialist who i have used for all my work. Its had every little problem sorted including the brand new cams which where £500 fitted.
-
£3k ish I reckon. With all that work done to it you could run it for another 100k with no problem.
-
Thats great, There is quite a few other little things I have done since owning it as well. It really does want for nothing now and drives like new plus you don't see many of these with 80k on the clock either.
Forgot to mention it also has Launch Control fitted, very rarely use it but its good for a laugh now and then.
Thanks again
-
You have launch control fitted!? Seriously? Where did you have that fitted? Lots of wheel spinning?
-
Yeah, Got it fitted for free when I had it remapped, Big fish tuning at Stokesley, Probably charge you about £50 or less for just that. Dip the clutch and push the accelerator to the floor and it settles around 2200rpm, Sounds good though.
It does wheel spin a little but not as much as you would expect, Certainly makes it shift quicker off the line!
-
I will get a video of it for you tomorrow afternoon and put it on here
-
Heres a couple of vids, Quite a lot of wheel spin due to the rain today and that its -4 outside, Its not normally too bad.

Edit: Not sure how to post vids, Any help on this? hopefully the above will work after two attempts!
-
Decent effort
Never seen that before. So is that foot planted on the floor, and the limiter keeps it at 2kish revs? Perfect revs for most torque
-
Yeah clutch and accelerator to the floor. I took the car in to get the injectors set up and a map and when I picked it up he had done it for free so cant complain really.
Like i said i only use it once in a blue moon as I don't want to wear the clutch out!
