Title: 16v Starting Problems when hot
Post by: blu16v on 13 July 2005, 13:49
Hi peeps

I hope someone can help - my 16v starts on the button when cold. When at normal temperature the starter refuses to completely turn the engine over.  :embarassed:

I have double checked the timing, as it sounds as if the ignition timing is out and stalling the starting process. I have changed the starter motor (twice) no improvement.

It does dim the headlights when trying to start when hot. New battery recently.

Is it an earth problem, if so any ideas where to start checking?

Thanks for reading this post.

shots in the dark... coil? dodgy leads? plugs?

What happens when you turn the key? Nothing at all? does the engine turn over?

Thanks for the quick responses.

The coil, leads and plugs are in good order. When trying to start from hot it attempts to turn the engine over but stalls as if the timing is out (checked and correct).Occasionally it will catch and run, but more often will not start until it has cooled down.

Thanks

Just an idea but try unpluging the warm up regulator when starting from hot.
