Title: Rear spacers
Post by: Ginge 35Edition on 20 October 2012, 21:05
Basically I'm trying to avoid buying longer bolts and another set of locking nuts and I've been told I wouldn't need to with 5mm spacers?

All help appreciated as always.

10mm at least or get your coat

I run 10mm H&R spacers which come with longer bolts.  Got them from DPM Performance.

And if they want your wheels they will most likely take the car that comes with them  :lipsrsealed:

I ran 12mm on the A3, got a bit of rubbing but was right down on coilies. No locking wheel nuts. As mentioned, if they want your wheels, they will get them. It's hardly a difficult job to remove locking nuts. Or they'd just take your car.

5mm isn't worth it.......

Thanks guys, so you reckon these then:-

Scott - fancy giving someone with a glass back a hand, perhaps do dial staging too? For some beer tokens of course? Have you got the facility to do it?

Do you wheels sit flush now with the arch or should I consider 12mm?

Just a tiny bit inside but they are much more in line with the front wheels now. I didnt go for 12's as some people reported rubbing should the car be loaded up  :undecided:

Thanks, 10mm it is then. Tbh we tend to use mine for anything bulky cos ya can get bugger all in the boot of the cab. I'll get them ordered tomorrow all being well.

You not doing the front?

I have spacers on my radar since lowering and was thinking 10mm front and back, look forward to the pics

Not yet as I think the fronts sit pretty in line. I was looking down the side of my car and the rears just look like they could do with coming out a bit. Tbh it's just a cosmetic thing to give the car a wider stance, I'm not really interested in the handling properties.

Yeah 10mm sounds good but I would also do the fronts. I would probably go 10mm rear and maybe 8mm front if I was to do it again, as the front rubbed under hard cornering until I removed the arch screw. Again it was pretty low though, but I did have uprated ARB's to reduce body roll.

I didn't really rate the H&R's as they seemed to warp a bit and I got vibrating thru the wheel; the car was fine without and I had the balancing checked several times with no probs.

I would probably give some eBay hubcentric spacers a go - e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-MK4-BIMECC-HUBCENTRIC-WHEEL-SPACER-KIT-10MM-/300678491650?pt=UK_Cars_Parts_Vehicles_Wheels_tyres_Trim_Nuts_ET&hash=item4601d5ae02 and http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-AUDI-SEAT-SKODA-5-x-100-5-x-112-8mm-HUBCENTRIC-WHEEL-SPACERS-/160865186480?pt=UK_Cars_Parts_Vehicles_Wheels_tyre_Trims_Trims_ET&hash=item25744ff2b0

Yeah don't mind helping out, just let me know

Thank Scott, what do you think to these. This way I could probably do the front too for the same money as the H&R?

Cosmetic for me too :embarrassed:

10mm front and back no issue. Go H&R hubcentric.

Had them on my Roc and my S3 and no issue there either

Hmmm not too sure on FK. Heard bad things about their coilies but nothing about spacers. I'm sure they would be fine.  I've heard of the H&R's cracking so I wouldn't even say it's a case of "you get what you pay for"

Perhaps give DPM a call tomorrow and Damien will say whether he thinks the H&R's are worth it. I doubt he'd sell FK's if they were really crap.

I'd like to see your b4 and after pic.

Ive got the spacers in tha garage to fit to my ED35 but I actually think the ED35 looks right and have chosen not to just yet. I defo needed them on my Roc but not convinced the ED35 needs them as its so well set up.

Give them a spray of copper grease or similar as it will aid in getting them off in future

I had 10mm H&R trak+ spacers on my Roc. I had alot of vibrations. Make sure you get hub and wheel centric spacers.
