Title: Mk2 clutch change
Post by: Ozz on 20 October 2012, 09:25
Hi there, just wanted to know how tricky this job is and how long it should take, I'm pretty handy with a spanner but I've never done a clutch before!

Also the previous owner gave me a new clutch with the car, but its got a bit of surface rust on it from being in storage, I'm assuming its ok to just clean it up with some brake cleaner or something similar?

Cheers for any advice,

Ozz

I'd say its about 3 to 4 hours work, at a comfortable pace, easily knock an hour plus off if you have the use of a ramp... also double check that the clutch supplied is the correct one, and is a good quality brand! Hopefully its a LUK/Sachs item, that is the same as OE
Surface rust will be fine cleaned off with brake cleaner, excessive rust may be a problem, post up a pic, if you're not sure
I'd also swap out the old cable, just as a matter of course...
