Had a few scratches on my car so took it back to the stealer. They are gonna machine polish it with a mop for me, sweet!
Will defo get some pics up once its done, as long as its not raining!
-
a "Mop" am I missing something? :undecided:
-
A mop is an old method of getting rid of swirls, I suspect that they use that terminology but as the author says a machine polish. I can't imagine anyone uses the mop technique anymore?
-
Alright...I thought it was a mop and bucket...method.

Yeah they do...the 'mop' was usually a wool bonnet on a rotary polisher...and in the wrong hands will do far more damage than good. Every bodyshop I know still uses a wool mop to get rid of nibs in the paint and flatten fresh paintwork...it's good, but aggressive as hell!
I would be sweating if my dealer offered to 'mop' my paintwork.
Buffer trails ahoy!

Id seriously reconsider their offer and instead insist that they pay a pro detailer to do the job
You have been warned :lipsrsealed:

^This! Have a look at my thread in the detailing section of a dealers attempts to fix a paint issue, it was a Volvo dealer so perhaps VW may be different but like Rhyso says you have been warned!

I'm with the others on this. I'd be worried.
You may think it look fine, but just wait until the low autumn sun catches it.
-
I had the same problem on a brand new car, they got a pro detailer to do it while i was there.
-
There's no way I'd let Ridgeway VW touch my car in that way.
If it were me, I'd make sure they had a pro doing it and not their rag man who cleans the cars after a service.

Cheers Ginge for the explanation...

As a member of detailing world the idea of letting a dealer touch the paintwork scares the bejesus outta me.

Lol perhaps I should have rephrased myself. The stealer is sending my car to a professional detailers to be mopped.
Hope that puts all your minds at rest!

I wish I'd checked this thread before going to bed last night, I didn't sleep a wink. At least I cant enjoy watching the touring cars today, without this still playing on my mind.

Great stuff!! Just make sure you use a nice soft mit to wash it and a nice soft towel to dry it and you won't go far wrong! :afro:

Echo Jimble comments, soft and gentle is the way forwards as far as the paintwork is concerned...good to hear it all went well.
-
Not to worry I have microfiber mits one for car and one for wheels and a soft towel for drying! I'm using the two bucket method also which seems to work well on my black car.

Good lad! get some pictures in the detailing section.. :afro:
