Title: Mk2 8 vavler starting issue
Post by: Rob Zombie on 18 October 2012, 15:59
Hello guys,

I've got a 8 valver - with a Rotrex supercharger and have a problem with oil coming up through the breather valve which causes problems when starting first time from cold.

I've recently swapped out my 1.8 bottom end for a mk3 2.0 bottom end due to pistons (being effed). checked the bottom end and a few mechanics gave it a look over and was in very good shape. The top end has also been uprated and only has aorund 38 k on it.

So in wetn the new bottom end.

So basically the breather pipe is feeding off the main air intake pipe, which is connected to the supercharger and up to the throttle body.

Whenever i start the car up (from cold) it takes around 10 minutes while i ahve to keep the throttle stuck to the floor for it to actually pick up and get enough revs to drive off, it sometimes dies.... once its been driven for a few minutes shes perfect, it idles fine.

Could this be that there's excess oil sat in the supercharger so this is preventing it from firing up straight away?

Could i remove the breather vavle on top of the rocker cover and replace with a K&N style air filter and bascially remove the breather hose? This in thoery would stop the oil coming up from the breather valve, or could it be the fact I've bought a OEM replacment valve as this issue only occured after replacing the breather valve (even with a hole in piston 1) and this could not be do its job corrrectly?

Any help would be appreciated, I was getting ready to sell her but in this state I cant really let her go.

Many thanks
Robb

Just to add to this, I will leave the breather pipe on just point in down towards the gearbox or soething so it doesnt come into the car... Would this work?

Cheers
