Title: Heat around the feat
Post by: kidhannn on 13 July 2005, 08:19
Hi,
I bought a 1988 VW GTi Cab recently and since noticed a lot of heat being passed around the feet when driving (both passenger and driver side). Anyone know whether this is normal and whether this can be fixed?

Thanks

Maybe an obvious question, but are the heater dials on hot and pointing down to your feet ?  :undecided:

The heater dials are pointing to cold and not pointing to the feet.
Also, the temperature guage is also in the middle so car is not over-heating.

Hmmm. Not sure then.  :undecided: Does the heater itself work ? As in, does it blow on all speeds and if it's set to hot does it blow hot and if it's set to cold it blows cold ?  :undecided:

Yeah, heater does work.... will have to check whether the cold part works....
But the hear is generated when the heater is off.

Could it be hot air from the engine coming in, say from a crack in the exhaust manifold?

hi
it could be the heater control valve under the bonnet.......when they go even on cold they ley the hot water pass through them into the car........try turning it onto the screen with the blower on(on cold) if it comes out hot the valve will need replacing.....easy job and a cheap one at that from german and swedish
cheers
