Title: MK1 Sound System
Post by: kidhannn on 13 July 2005, 08:12
Hi Guys,
Can anyone suggest me an audio package to put into my 1988 MK1 GTi Cab. (And if you are aware of any current special offers)
I dont want to change the door fittings to accomodate larger speakers hence want suggestions on what to add within the same mk1 speaker dimensions.

I was looking at the following package but not sure if this would fit:
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=4467&cadid=9f021333395b6320aea4d1de2fe49515

I dont want to spend more than £225

Finally, is there anything like free fitting service provided by the seller?

Thanks in advance......

You might get more response in the Audio section on this as not everyone comes in here. I'll move it and see what happens.

Those speakers wont fit your standard door pockets, standard are 4"x6", those are 6x9's.

I don't have much experience with blaupunkt speakers, there not extremely well known for the subs and amps, onlyheadunits really. Personally i'd spend a little more and get this lot:

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/2964.html

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/4008.html

I've been using JBL speakers for years, and i've found nothing matches them for value for money, plus there extremely hard to blow up! This lot comes to £250, but you could pick another headunit.

With regards to fitting it, do it yourself, its all self explainitary and its good to learn it. You cant really go wrong, the headunit will plug straight in (assuming the car hasnt been butchered in the past) and the amp will come with easy instructions.

Hi,
This is great, thanks.

Would I need to add any speakers in the rear? Or the subwoofer is good enough?

Thanks

Rear speakers are never needed, unless you often carry rear passengers and want them to hear it better. There's no where in a cabby to stick rear speakers, the shelf gets covered when the roof's down. In my mk2 i have a decent amped component kit up front, and an 18" sub in the boot, and that sounds incredible. I'm probably doing a similar set up to what i just suggested in my cabby, just nice and simple.

Because the front speakers aren't amped you should really go for the best headunit you can afford (the blaupunkt appears to be this). The power output they state doesnt matter its the built in filters that make the differance (High pass filter is most important)

If you need any help gimme a shout, hope this helps, Andy

my 83 cab has perforations in the rear door cards, so are there some mini speakers behind there? only had it a few days so havent taken it apart yet.
