Title: MFSW and after market headunit
Post by: dTEA on 16 October 2012, 20:50
After advice from someone who has done it!  My old MK5 didnt have a MFSW so it was pretty much plug and play with the ISO block and antennae.  But I want to put in the Pioneer headunit into the ED30 and its trip computer is on the steering wheel and I'm unsure about the canbus.

Would I lose all function on the steering wheel without the correct canbus and then pioneer adapter?  Or would I just lose the change track and radio channel functions?  I want to make sure it still cycles through the mpg, mph, mins driven etc and of course access the convenience settings.

This is what I posted over on mk5gti.co.uk but had no reply, despite everyone changing up for 510's

It's currently got a RCD300 in from what I can figure. I know in the last mk5 I only had to connect the ISO blocks and an ariel adapter as I wasn't bothered about dimming or speed control sound. But the ED30 has a multifunction steering wheel with highline MFD. I presume if I don't connect the right Canbus and Pioneer adapter the. I will lose all control of the MFD and steering wheel?

Can anyone be clear on if I will lose the MFD control from the steering wheel or will it just lose volume and track control?

I was looking at these:

I'm just. It sure about the hard wired but that the stalk interface is referring to as the more info button tells you to just connect the jack after waking the system and storing a radio station?!?!

Fairly sure to get everything working youd need a canbus adaptor

PM AlanD as he has an aftermarket unit but im not sure if he has MSFW  :undecided:

Hurdy also ran an aftermarket unit in his ED30 so ask him too

Was gonna but then thought it'd be handy if it was in a thread so it could be searched
ESP as I had no luck on here or on the mk5gti forum. It seems an obvious question as well. It would save loads of hassle with the install and save money...at least in the short term. Depends on whether the pioneer adapter means I can search usin the wheel instead of the headunit ala 510.
