Title: is this a good idea to keep engine bay temps down?
Post by: paultownsend on 15 October 2012, 18:50
as above

if this is a no no then i have a spare grille to cover it back up

i opened up a hole, the same as the airbox inlet. easy enough to do with a stanley knife and hack saw blade. its just a highly packed paper fibre material

i cant see it doing any damage. engine warms up in the same amount of time. with the bonnet down its pretty protected from birds etc

i cant test the flow, but being one of the golfs high pressure points, and being around the inlet manifold area, im hoping it adds that little extra to keeping under bonnet temps cooler until i fit an uprated FMIC

going to try make some sort of guide to direct straight on the inlet mani

I don't think it will make much difference to be honest. The standard intercooler keeps the inlet manifold pretty cool. There is a thicker gasket you can buy which reduced the heat soak from the cylinder head that would probably be a more worthwhile mod in the long run, especially if your getting a bigger intercooler.
