Sooo... Flickr confuses the Bejesus out of me, so I've been on the hunt for somewhere better to store and share my pictures and came across 500px. Just wondering if anyone else has tried it? It's got raving reviews and the free version allows 10 uploads a week, which I feel is reasonable.
Also you get a snazzy portfolio which you can design yourself, which helps to show your best pics off. I know a lot of you love Flickr, I was wondering if anyone had tried this? Thoughts?
My Portfolio (only one pic so far lol).

I signed up to this about 4 months ago. I really like it but for some reason stopped using it.
Flickr seems to have attracted a lot of people uploading stuff that I'm not interested in (i.e snapshots or general uploads)
Mine is http://500px.com/TJGphotography

I'll follow you, you can be my first friend lol!
The reason I like it is it is simple enough to use... But slightly complex and limited (10 a week), to stop general people uploading pictures of toast/cats/subway/jesus etc...

Yeah, which to be honest I want to avoid. Flickr seems to be coming the new Photobucket.
Most of the shots on 500PX are amazing, real inspiration. Puts mine to shame.
Oh btw, did you pay to get the portfolio? Says I need to be awesome to get it

No I signed up and got 14 days free, there are 3 different accounts though, there's Awesome, Free and Plus, tbf plus gives you everything but the portfolio for $20 a year! But if I'm honest, 10 uploads a week will stop me filling it with cack, Ill just upload my best ones! I hope I get to keep the portfolio though. You should sign up for another account and try and blag it lol! :)

I was under the impression that 500px was for very serious amateurs or professionals and even then it's more about having a blog and portfolio than sharing your latest pics.
What is it you don't get about Flickr?
I've been using my (paid for) Flickr account properly for about a year or more now.
I tend only to add contacts of people whose work I like, I've not seen it becoming like photobucket, sure some people just upload to host their photos somewhere, but I don't see that as a problem and I don't often see those photos.
There's a lot going on on flickr, but I like seeing that people are viewing my photos (70,000+ views right now), getting feedback on my photos and finding out if people like it or not. I also like seeing other people's work, appreciating it and being inspired in my own work.
That said, I've not really tried 500px, so I might have to join and have another photo site to waste spend time on,

Flickr is just so complicated and visually boring! I never even figured out how to share the IMG code! And no one ever viewed any of my pics, not sure if I was tagging them wrong or something! 500px just seems simpler. Just focuses more on the pictures than the site if you know what I mean?

With Flickr you have to add them to groups to get them seen. Once people start seeing your photos, they'll then add you as a contact, then they'll see whenever you upload new photos.
The Flickr site itself is a bit pants, but you can go to http://www.flickriver.com/ (http://www.flickriver.com/) and login with your flickr login for a better interface.
Looks like I've now got a 500px account too...

I still think Flickr is useful and really accessible. But a bit boring visually.
Used to get a lot of views, my pro subscription lapsed and haven't bothered renewing it.
I have got a website now at www.tjgphotography.co.uk

I'll give it a go with that new interface! Cheers!
