Title: HULK the daily mk3 gti
Post by: Buckfizzturbo on 14 October 2012, 20:30
Well I've got far to many cars but decided 1 more wouldn't be a problem.

Picked her up a couple weeks ago cheap!!!

Mk3 golf gti 8v with air con and my 3rd mk3 without a sunroof ;) 106k and pretty clean for the money with FSH.

Plans are to keep it simple and cheap. Maybe

Here's how she stands

So the plan yesterday was to swap out the leather and black abc trims from the vr an use a few other parts I collected inc black roof handles, sun visors and interior light.

1st of it was a simple case of gutting the inside of the gti

With a little help from the Martin aka smurf this didn't take to long.

Next up was to remove all this from the vr

Because I'm trying to sell the VR we had to refit all the gti parts back into it properly.

So with the VR leather n black trim parts all out and the VR all back to get her I could concentrate on the GTI.

Got a can of carpet dye previously to make the roof lining black. It needed a few more than 1 can but we got there in the end.

So with that sorted it was a case of fitting it with all the black interior parts and leather to get it looking like this

Looks good for the little amount it cost me. Next up for the interior is a full valet and to get my US rear arm rest/ cup holder in. I've also got a couple more US bits on the way for the interior and once I have done the TT dash conversion in my show MK3 I will also have anniversary clocks, floor mats, gear knob and gaitor aswell as a lower glove box.

Also thanks to jay I made a start on the exterior changes I have planned. I detest the smoked light units on mk3 so I've changed the rear lights for cl lights. I may mod these to look like hella all reds later. Will do the indicators aswell.

Lastly after a 5hr round trip I picked these up

Corvette c4 alloys. 8 n 9.5j with tyres and adaptors for an absolute steel!!!

Here's a pic with them resting up against the car

Going to look sweet when there on but I'm not expecting that to be easy. Arch work, coilovers and joey modded front lights and full valet for the exterior and I may have some US parts for the outside aswell.

Until next time ;)

Cheers mate.

Yeah kinda need to clear the cars up. Got 4 outside the house and that's without the show car back. That's why the vr is up for sale as is the mk4 which I'm using daily. Its Far to nice of car to be running back n fourth to work.

The new mk3 will look cool and cost me less than 1/4 of the price the mk4 Is worth.

Test fitted my newly acquired US front bumper today for my show car. Chuffed I've now made a pair. Still got a US front n tailgate on order so this car may end up with a US front. ;)

Also went to test fit the vettes but realised that I need smaller wheel bolts for the adaptors. Adaptors bolt on fine but the Vw bolts don't fit. Is it a case of just getting some thinner bolts?

Wheel info if you wondered are:

8.5 x 16 F
9.5 x 16 R

20mm n 25mm H&R adaptors.

Better update when we get some good weather.

What's the difference between the standard bumper and the US one other than the side markers? The smoothed numberplate section?
Title: Re: HULK the daily mk3 gti
Post by: Buckfizzturbo on 17 October 2012, 22:52
Yep side markers and smooth plate section. They are also deeper by just under a inch. This makes other parts on the bumper different aswell. Eg the lower uk grills are too small for the US bumper.
