What exactly will i need to get a engine conversion done to my 8v... i dont wna sell my car and get another, as iv just spent quite a bit of money on it.... i know i need the engine, will i need to change the gearbox, clutch ? etc .... whats the most it could cost me ?

Better of getting a complete 16v gti, which has body damage, (rust etc) for a cheap price, and just transfer all ruining gear into yours, atleast you'll have everything there, and won't be running backwards and forth, trying to obtain parts which are needed, which will work out alot expensive in the long shot

Pointless really, all that work and you only have the same P/W as a Saxo which gets boring after a while :grin:
Worth it only if you like playing with cars and getting dirty as you will not make a racing car out of a Mk3 without at least sticking a turbo on it :smiley:

Tbh,if you don't like the mk3 the way it is then your probably better off trying something else.
Or put a VRT motor in it.. :evil:

Ill say do it too. I've had a 106 gti and saxo vts. There about the same up till 4th then the abf will keep pulling due to the extra bhp.
I could drive my abf faster on back roads than my vr6.
Oh and the 16v was standard and the vr6 is on FK coilovers. It's not low either!
So it's a abf for next to nothing. Or a 1.8t that you will spend £2000 on.

how do you guys find insurance on cars with engine conversions as im thinking the same.for mine as its a rot free car but if i have a hike in insurance it probably rules out the time and expense to put into it

It makes it modified so can have the effect of being more than an out of the box 16v, more likely if you run it on a normal policy as well.
To put a VR in mine is about £100 more than a std VR on a std policy but no change on my current sub 5000 mile ticket.
All the usual factors like age and location play a part as well.

Just sell it and buy a 16v, easier in the long run.

What have you spent money on the 8v, chances are you could transfer any new parts and goodies to a cheap 16v.

coils and exhaust system, dnt wna thro 8v away, how much would it cost to convert tho, £250 ++ ?? as it needs welding doing and needs tax n mot, so i wnt get jack for it,

Iv have my golf gtd in the garage for a year now and have not driven it yet,it was the magistrates decision after I crashed a skoda favorit into a brand new fiat punto totaling both.
At the end of this month I will be free to drive again.
Which is faster a 16v or a 19 turbo diesel?

Good torque figures can be had out of the TDI though with some fettling.

You can have 170bhp plus and serious torque from a TDI, bit more than simple fettling but a serious proposition if you are prepared to spend some money

It will make more than a 16v thats for sure but the revs will limit it.

Not an really an issue unless you like screaming down the motorway though.
