My GT(red I) badge is a little faded on the red and rather than replace I'm thinking on removing it completely. I'm pretty sure they are just glued to the back of the car but has anyone removed these before? if so are there any tips on how to do it without killing the paint work?
-
get a hairdryer on it to heat the glue strip up then peel it off. if there's any sticky crap left over just give it a quick wipe with some panel wipe/thinners/white spirit
-
ok that makes sense, but white spirit on me paint?? you sure?
not saying you don't know what your doing but it sounds a bit risky to me, would a bit of autoglym super resin get it off?
-
A damp cloth got mine off

I didnt want to touch my car with any painter thinner or remover so I used cotton. Get some cotton and double it over a couple of times and then work your way behind the badge. Not the easiest method but effective none the less.

depends how much elbow grease you want to use, and im lazy
as long as you wash it off afterwards weak solvents like that are less harmful to your paint than birdsh!t.

Cool, thanks for the reply guys, now the only problem is shouldI remove the GTi badge or not :( really dont know.

I'm of the keep it opinion but another way of getting them off is to do so with some dental floss as it gets behind the badge easily leaving very little sticky stuff
-
do you still need to use a hairdrier if you are using dental floss to remove the badge?
-
Yep, using the hairdryer will make your life a lot easier. I know it sounds scary but trust me, it's not that bad. You should use a standard hairdryer, point at it and feel the whole thing softening up. Then with your floss, just stick it behind the badge and "saw" off the sticky bit slowly.
