Hi, again I don't seem wants strange about asking the value, I paid £300 for the car as a non runner. Never ever owned one before
so have no idea of its true value.
Does the mk3 have an imobiliser, as I got two keys one plain and one with a push button on, but no internal guts inside. The car just will not start at all. The guy told me he had to bang the fuse box, to get it going. Got it shipped to me only two days ago and have been unable to start the engine. Done a few checks to day, and checked for spark non. Also no voltage going to distributor,
anyone have any ideas please. Turns over fine, but will not fire up.

Thx

Kevin

if it was the immobiliser it would start but cut out right away. do you have power to the coil pack? they have a habit of burning out if you leave the ignition on without the engine running for long periods of time

Hi, I haven't checked the coil pack, its fitted with a new one and new plug leads..
Will test that 2moro, but I'm assuming there will be no voltage their too!!
Any other sugestions, please.

Thx

Hi,
again I always thought that the chip in the key sends a signal to the ECU to Disarm the imobiliser, so you can start the engine.
Hence if the key has no guts in ie Chip, how can it send a signal that everythings ok  and you can start the engine. Please
correct me if I'm wrong.

Thx

Kevin

hi, everyone here's an update on the GTI
Checked voltage at coil and is present and defiantly sending power through HT Lead, but still no spark.
I started checking everything, pulled out fuse box, checked all wiring behind all fuses and relays. Found the main Engine ECU relay
not working. And I think this is surely the problem, as I was thinking in the first place no signal from the key or dead ECU not picking up the signal. The relay is just not making a circuit as I believe the imobiliser comes off the low tension side of distributor, well have ordered new relay and keeping my fingers crossed. I hope its not got ECU problems, as from what I've read all ready its quite a common problem on these cars.

Cheers

Kev

Welcome aboard !

First - they keys are empty. The button is to activate the light to find the key hole at night hence the battery in the key .

In the corner of the inside of the key by the blade is a small black chip , this is your transponder which is matched to the car and when they key is in the barrel disarms the imob .

Second - that is a pretty universal locking wheel nut key 3pin , it's aftermarket not vw , get a locking wheel but removal tool and got them off an replace as not having a key is no good to you.  Or be pikey try some decent long nose pliers and some leverage

Common starting issues like said are coil pack really but could have a shot ignition switch , try giving the key a wiggle when in cranking position .

Hope that helps

Hi,
all again. update on GTI !! Today fitted new relay, first turn of the key she fired up and for an engine that has done 157000 miles
its still sweet as a nut, really impressed. The power from this thing is unbelievable, still plenty of punch, no smoke. Just a little tickle from the tappets, but a good oil change and service might sort that out. Still need find someone on here who know the colour, would be a great help. Right found out that the spoiler is not the original one, but I really like it. But its in really bad condition, has any one got a good one laying about for sale, got to in good condition though. It's a Hella KBA 37585, model no:8XE 7493 rear spoiler with integrated rear light. Take a pic 2moro.

Regards

Kev
