Title: Dsg oil change, worries
Post by: ed30James on 09 October 2012, 13:04
So I have a 2008 edition 30 with 35k on the clock. I have had a few dsg issues, slight jerking in first second at low revs and also a severe jolt in reverse. I've read about the severe issues with the dsg box on here and whilst I am a bit worried I also notice that at the cars four year service the dsg oil wasn't changed.

I bought the car two weeks ago so this could end up being a bit of a shocker or hopefully just in need of dsg oil change

So the question is do I book it in for a dsg oil change pronto at a Vw garage knowing that if it is the mechtronic unit I may have a slim chance of convincing them that it is a fault that should have been rectified under warranty. Any ideas advice really appreciated....

Thanks

DSG oil change is done at 40,000 miles and not age or service dependant.

my car is 6 years old, has 33,000 on it and hasn't had the DSG service yet.

As said above dsg oil change is earmarked at 40k miles but there is no harm in getting it done sooner.

In your position I would find a buddy with a vcds cable and ask them to do a dsg basic setting then go for the prescribed test drive. If that doesn't help matters then probably only VW will be able to sort you out

Sorry bacillus. What is a vids cable and do you know anymore about the prescribed test drive?

Thanks

So Vw have booked it in for a dsg oil and filter change. Hopefully that will fix it but the engineer thought first gear could be slipping as the problem only surfaces in first and reverse. Hopefully I'll be happier once it is sorted.

Thanks

Just collected the car and the first drive seemed much improved. I was told the dsg box is intuitive and will need some time to adjust to my driving style. Sounded unlikely but the issue in first and reverse seems much improved and the box doesn't seem to change up as early as it used to.

Very happy
