hey guys,
i not so recently got rid of my coilies and fitted the standard shocks and h&r springs back to my golf as the coilies were driving me nuts , however since doing this i have noticed that when i go full lock on the steering wheel to park then return the wheel to centre there is a loud banging noise from whichever corner i have just full locked too (both sides do it). does anyone have any ideas? bearings shot in the top mounts maybe? they were new top mounts but not bearings when i changed my shocks back.
cheers

Perhaps it's the actual springs turning and creating the noise?
-
i did grease up there perches pretty well though. its really weird but a fairly concerning bang :undecided:
-
Yea sounds like the springs are moving about, did you fit them correctly when you compressed the springs?
-
yeah 100% do you have a suggestion to remedy this? cheers

Had a problem with my old Mk3 GL which did this but I agree with the others as it sounds too coincidental that it happened after changing back to shocks.
I changed top mounts and bearings, bottom ball joints and wishbones. Turned out to be the driveshaft! Strange one but was cured after replacing it.
Would check the springs are seating correctly, maybe get someone to turn the steering whilst you have a look to see whats going on if you haven't already?
-
ok ill have another looksy to see what going on in there.
cheers for the help guys

Have you fitted the correct spring plates?

yeah i had to fit the bigger of the two as the original springs had a smaller pigtail than the h&r's
