Title: 4Motion vibrations
Post by: Defender on 07 October 2012, 20:57
Hi All,
Just bought a GT TDI 4Motion (Private sale) there is annoying vibration about 2000rpm if I knock it down a gear and increase past the 2500rpm mark it disappears.

Anyone any ideas what this might be?

Thanks,

Is that in a gt tdi 4 mo or something else? Looking into a 140 4mo at the moment so am curious to see if this is a consistant problem  :undecided:

Solved the problem it appears the prop mount at the rear had gone, it's like a rubber donut type thing. Other causes could be the front rubber donut or the centre bearing which supports the prop.

Apparently over time the rubber goes hard so the thing looks ok from the outside but is actually faulty. Be warned though it's £280 for the donut + fitting.

Also make sure if the prop is ever removed the garage mark them as they are balanced units and if put back wrong could also cause vibration. And the sequence is apparently to tighten the front and rear donuts and then the centre bearing last so everything settles into the right place.

This seems to be quite common on the Audi forums as something to look for.

Sorry for all the info just passing on what I found out in the hope it helps someone else.
