Evening guys, what are the different (if any) bulb set ups on small bumper vs big bumper & dual headlight vs quad headlights, getting very confused with contradicting info. Also are the sidelights W5Ws or Bayonet style ones?
-
There are on differences at all between the headlights in big and small bumper cars. Inner spots on quad light set ups are all the same too.
The only difference was dim-dip that was introduced towards the end of 1986. If you are not aware of this, when you have parking lights on, it sends 6 volts to dip beam when you turn the ignition on. It was to stop people from driving round with just parking lights on. The resistors for this set up could be troublesome, so many have been disconnected.

Ah I didn't know the mk2 had a dim-dip system, just did a wikipedia search, the dim-dip system was quashed in the UK around the end of the mk2s production. Is there a difference between the indicator units? i.e. could a big bumper unit be fittted into a small bumper? I was hoping to put an LED unit in a small bumper but can only find ones for big bumper only.
Do the spot lights have any function? My brother in law has a mk2 gti with quad set up and I was expecting the high beams to come from the spot lights

Big and small bumper indicators are different.
The spot lights in the quad grille set up are additional high beam lights, meaning you have 4 high beam lamps.

Ah ok. May remove remove the spot lights, bummer about the indicators, no worries, thank you for clearing it all up buddy.
