Need my cambelt doing (over due :lipsrsealed: ) and would rather try having a go at it myself rather than paying a garage to do it, I need to get more stuck in and build my mechanical confidence and knowledge.
But I'm not quite confident doing it all by myself so I was wondering if there's anyone on here that's fairly local to me (Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire) that's done a cambelt before and knows what their doing enough to help me out and make sure I don't make a complete f**k up of it?
I can offer petrol/beer money and supply a steady flow of tea and bacon or whatever

I'm washing my hair.

Just the one hair?

What engine is it?
-
8v digi.
TBH I'd leave it. If the belt snaps it won't get damaged anyway

I think that's reassuring! :lipsrsealed:
I found mixed quotes online when trying to find if it's an interference engine or not.
I'll see how it goes, not had trip in a flatbed for a while!
I got the new belt and tensioner ready to go on, I think the bit I'm least looking forward to is getting the timing right.

Just mark everything with tipex and your sorted
-
loads of bloody big dots to line up. just need a timig gun to redo ignition as most ppl ang garages cant be arsed to do the itermediate shaft to the marks and just scew the dizzy
-
An old trick we do is cut the old one in half slide the new one half on to the cogs then cut off the old one then fully push over the new belt nor miss alignment occurs and timming marks have not been disturbed?
-
Make sure you turn the engine over by hand, loosen the plugs, before you go for a start up.
-
You lot make it sound so easy
So I mark up all pulleys with tipex, on the pulley and on the engine?
Do I need to get under the car or can it all be done from above?

You missed out one crucial step, you can only do it in your pants or it will never start again. It was some experimental technology for the spanish and italian markets to cope with the hot garages, it was used on red 8vs with digi engines only.

Oh sh!t, I never even knew that!
I tell you what, I'd be completely lost if it wasn't for the helpfulness of the members on this forum. :lipsrsealed:
Seriously though, would I need to get under the car to do the bottom end pulley?
-
You can mark it from the top with little difficulty but for the sake of jacking up and removing the front wheel i would recommend getting under it and marking it properly, this will also aid in putting the belt back on properly
