Ok peeps. A pondering if you will....
I have a modified 87 valver, so in experience what do you reckon is the best fuel?
Does Super Unleaded (Sainsburys?) work just as effectively as Optimax?
I have always used Optimax as informed by previous owner and other peeps. is there better? :undecided:
Cheers, Dan

My 1990 Digifant says use 98 RON if available, look at the little sticker on the fuel filer flap or in the owners manual. I use optimax. As far as I know this is the only readily available 98 RON fuel. Sainsburys and BP Ultimate are 97 I believe.
Your car will run best on the RON rated fuel it was designed for.

Hi mate
I used to use optimax or BP Ultimate but have started filling up with Sainsburys super unleaded with no noticable difference except mpg and wallet damage! i posted this in another thread.
Sainsburys super unleaded is only 81.9 up here in sunny huddersfield and its 97 RON which is the same as BP ultimate (which is an average by the way) and Shell Optimax if you notice LRP is also 97 Ron, I've filled up with BP, Shell and Sainsburys and the only difference is the fuel consumption
Worst = Shell optimax 156 miles to 35 litres £34.50
Then = BP ultimate 189 miles to 35 litres £32.75
Best = Sainsburys super duper unleaded 264 miles to 35 litres £28.00
I haven't noticed any difference in performance and i do notice little things like that ( I had a small leaf on my air filter and noticed she wasn't been as quick i overtake the same guys every morning smiley2 ) but normal unleaded and I feel like I bought an 8 valve by mistake!

I fill up with sainsburys super unleaded as well! I use optimax on occasion (once a month). I did fill up with BP Ultimate but it really does not warrant the expense nearly 96p a litre in Oxford :sad My car is a 91 8v

cheers peeps for the reply. I will have to check the difference in prices between Super and Optimax and save the pounds, if possible!
