Title: Dodgy clutch on MkII

Just been driving home in my 8v GTI, the clutch pedal went to the floor and stayed there. Looked under the bonnet and when you pull the pedal up and down it appears to move the cable but it doesnt seem to operate the clutch. Clutch seems to be stuck regardless of position of pedal and clutch adjusting lever thingy.
Any ideas what it could be and how expensive it might be to fix.

When you operate the pedal does it move the lever or just the cable? if only the cable moves then check that the bush under the release lever is still there and hasn't fallen off.

It does move the lever too ???
