Title: What 1/4 mile time at the Pod?
Post by: Hurdy on 29 September 2012, 21:20
Well the Golf .:R will be stage 2+ by midweek and I will be taking her to Santa Pod for a few runs down the strip on the 14th October and was wondering what time I'd get and thought we could have a bit of fun with the times beforehand. Mods are below....

Revo Stage 2+
Evoms intake
Autotech HPFP
RS4 valve
Milltek full TBE
DSG stage 2 map
Haldex race controller
May have an upgrade FMIC on if it arrives on time.

I will be full weight including the spare and the tyres are Dunlop Sport Maxx's at 235/35/19 on Talladega's(Heavy!)

I did a 12.6, with remap and intake, I think you should add some high 11's in hurdy ;)
I ran that 12.6 with everything in the car an unprep'd track and a full tank of fuel.

You should hit an 11.9 all day:

Can I ask what happening there On the 14th? I fancy a trip there again

It is the season closer show - GTI Festival. There should be plenty of VAG action and a fair amount of traders. I'll be on the UKMKIV's stand between runs.

Oh and I doubt I'd get an 11.9 or lower, but it would be great if I could at some point.

What power figures are you aiming for with those mods?

What IC did you go for mate? Would you not say the OEM IC is up for stage 2+??

What power figures are you aiming for with those mods?

I guess a stage 2+ with these mods would be anywhere between 325 bhp and 380bhp depending on the dyno it runs on.

What IC did you go for mate? Would you not say the OEM IC is up for stage 2+??

I went with a forge twintercooler. They make 2 variations, one for the Euro cars and one for the cars in the USA. The car is ok for the stage 2+ as it has the S3 cooler but recovery will be slower than I'd like.

Yup , can do. I will be leaving to get there early as I am on a clubstand - also need to make the most of my track time to get those times down.

Well, some varied answers in the poll looks like the main ones are 12.2 and 12.7, with one at each end of the times. Keep those votes coming and let me know why you think I'll get the times you voted for.

I'm planning on laying down some rubber. Didn't know the Forum was having a club stand for this show. :embarrassed:

Booked onto UKMKIV's stand (*runs and hides from embarrassment at not knowing we had a clubstand*)

Yep, that was APR Keith's car and he should be faster now he has the stage 3 kit fitted.

I'm personally banking on at least a 12.7XX pass.

May I also add I had 2 dead bodies in the boot

Still honestly think you'll just run a 12.5?

i went for 12.7 hurdy but think you'll beat that, I'm assuming you are still running stock suspension and mounts (which have made a massive difference on mine at a lowly stage 2)
Title: Re: What 1/4 mile time at the Pod?

Yep, still on stock suspension at the moment. Just trying to make my mind up what to buy at the moment.

Great day at the Pod. Lovely weather. Only did 16 runs in total. Got the hang of the car launch and shift points by the end of the day. A little different to launching on the road. I was avoiding the water for most of the day until Luke said it actually may help as I was getting too MUCH grip. After that my times dropped by another couple of tents of a second.

Fastest time was a 12.615 and the fastest time with a passenger was a 12.787.

The car still feels like it is held back by the torque limitation in the map and with an extra 40-50lbft should help drop the times more.

A few pics...list of runs (didn't pick up the last two runs which we're 12.62 and 12.63)

To put his 13.6 into perspective another guy was there with a manual MKVI GTI with APR stage 3 on it and did a fastest time of 13.8.

Best I managed was a 12.8, I struggled to get going all day for whatever reason, hardly ever felt like I hit full boost, but I know you were struggling while I was there also, but I was at least 4-5mph down on terminal speeds from last time I was there:
Good day tho just a horrible early start,

Track day next time, somewhere with nice run offs so I don't total myself :)

Unfortunately those manual FWD cars had a whole heap of trouble all day with getting off the start line. It got better throughout the day, but on my first run I spun up all 4 wheels and started to head towards the grandstand drift styleee. The video shows me putting some lock on trying to steer into it to get it under control. A 2.6 second 60' time was the result. 0.7 slower than it should be. Bendy on another forum did a run around the same time in the morning and he ended up with a 3.0second 60' with FWD.

Cold weather means the track takes longer to heat up and is faster to cool. The track prep also affects the grip too. Factor in the wet section for the burnout and you have several variables. It is all about finding the balance for that day and what works best. Generally it takes me 4 or 5 runs before homing in on the grip levels and getting my times consistent. Most of my 12.9's were with a passenger and 12.8's without, until I found the last variable of going through the water, which dropped the times another 2/10'ths.
