I've got this really annoying vibrating sound, like the heatshield!
It only happenes at aorund 4k revs, then goes away anything above, and anything under...
Any ideas?
Tah :)

heatsheild?
-
thats what i thought lol but at only certain RPM? i'll check it out =D

Could also be a exhaust mount loose

i agree. I had exactly the same in my mk3 and it turned out the rubbers on the exhaust had perished and it was hanging slightly lower than it should be and was catching on a bracket and it only happened from 4k to 5k

Look at where the centre of the exhaust is you got the bracket welded onto the pipe (just after the cat to centre box connector) bet it's come away from the pipe
-
I'll have to go look at that :)

is it a deep/dull sounded vibrate or a tinny one? first would likely be the exhaust or rubbers, second would be the heatshield and yes only at certain RPM's
-
Yeah its tinny and very loud! vibrates the whole car, going to get under there this week so i'll have a good dig around.
any neg effects for taking the heatsheilds off?
-
car gets warm in the summer but warmer in the winter, i ran my mk2 VR without one for quite a while as it came off 1 connector at a time, when it was fully sat on the exhaust at one end it really wound me up with the noise so i just removed the whole lot, i suggest leaving it on near any fuel pipes and stuff that go near it under the car
-
hmmm i'll have to get under and take a look, what about heat wrapping?

for protection you mean? it's worth a go but i've found it can be a b!tch to keep on the exhaust with the kits you get, like i said i never ran anything like that and never an issue with me

Found that it could be the headshield above the manifold to the rear of the engine, is there a way to take this off, and any adverse affect?
